Horse by Horse News

Good news they are racing this evening at Penn National where
  • Life On the Edge is entered in the 6th race. It is a 6 furlong sprint on the dirt and she gets top rider Tyler Conner up.  She is currently 8/1 on the morning line where the 8/5 favorite is the horse she came in second to back on December 3rd. She has been training well, according to Mark Salvaggio and should be competitive in this spot with a good trip. Good luck to all Group 50 Members and Kenwood Partners.
  • Fire's Finale is entered in the 6th race on Tuesday February 1st at Penn National. He also gets Tyler Conner in the irons going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. The weather looks much better for next Tuesday so it should be safe to make plans if anyone can attend. More details to follow when we get closer to race day
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy was entered twice at Gulfstream Park for turf sprints, but unfortunately both races were taken off the turf due to heavy rains in Hallendale. She is ready to run and we are hoping that another race for her is scheduled in the very near future.
  • The Ghost of N Y is ready to run after another good work this morning. We have been trying to enter him numerous times over the last week but the races have not been carded. We will continue to search for an appropriate spot for him to run as soon as possible

The Ghost of N Y (3-Year-Old Gelding)
Date: January 28, 2022
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 50:40 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 27/42

  • Chess Not Checkers and Pearlintherough have settled in nicely in Kelly Breen’s Barn at Palm Meadows and we will be looking for races for both in the coming weeks.
  • U Kant Whip It doing well at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck and Scott, Jack and some of the Group 67 Members were able to visit him on Thursday.
  • Street Facts is fine out of his race and should be back in the entries early next month.
  • Charge Account finished a hard trying 3rd at Aqueduct last Sunday and was claimed from us. She gave the Group 65 Members a solid return with 3 wins in Allowance Company and just under 100K in purses during her time in the Kenwood Stable. We will miss this talented filly and wish her good luck with her new connections.
  • Tessa P is well on the farm. She will be on the farm for a few weeks before resuming training next month.
  • Liam’s Map Colt and our Runhappy Yearling are both doing excellent at Manuden Farm in Ocala.
  • Lisa Limon and her Palace Malice filly both well at Hidden Brook Farm. Here is the video of the young filly walking at Hidden Brook Farm.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for January 20, 2022

January 21, 2022 at 6:58 am • By Anonymous

Horse by Horse News

A lot of news with two new additions to the Kenwood Stable and 2 new entries for Sunday Jan. 23rd.  First, we want to welcome two new 3 year old fillies our Stable, to be trained by Kelly Breen, who also has partnered with us in both of these fillies.

  • Chess Not Checkers was claimed Sunday Jan 16th at Gulfstream Park after finishing a hard trying 3rd.  This young filly has raced EIGHT TIMES as a 2yo, banking over $40,000 while still a maiden, who as mentioned above has never finished out of the money in her 9-race career. We are very happy to have this consistent versatile filly to start our ARC 22 Program.
  • Pearlintherough is our newest addition to the stable as she was claimed today out of the 1st race at Gulfstream Park.  She is a lightly raced 3 year old Tiznow filly who broke her maiden two races back by 8 lengths.  She will be another nice addition for the ARC 22 Group Members.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy is entered in a 5 furlong sprint on the turf in Sunday’s 9th race at Gulfstream Park.  She gets the far outside post which is not ideal for a short race and her desire to break to the lead.  However, with the class relief we hope that she may be able to get out quickly with rider Edwin Gonzalez and wire the field.  Good luck to all Group 58 Members and Kenwood Partners.
  • Charge Account is entered on Sunday in the 6th race at Aqueduct (see details below).  This is her first race back after a brief freshening on the farm this fall as the race she was entered in last weekend was cancelled due to the frigid temperatures in NY.  She has been training well and hope that she has a good trip coming off the bench in this small field of seven. Good luck to all Group 65 Members and the Kenwood Partners.
  • Fire's Finale has continued to train well and continues to be pointed towards an allowance race on Jan. 28th

Fire's Finale (4-Year-Old Colt)
Date: January 14, 2022
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 48:50 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 10/56

  • The Ghost of N Y is ready to run after a maintenance work last Friday. There are possible races for him on Jan 26 & 28th.  We will update when details are available

The Ghost of N Y (3-Year-Old Gelding)
Date: January 14, 2022
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 50:60 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 46/56

  • Life On the Edge also ready to run after a maintenance work.   There is a possible race for her on Jan 28th , as well.  We will provide details when available.

Date: January 14, 2022
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Four Furlongs

Rank: 51/56

  • Street Facts is fine out of his race and should be back in the entries early next month.
  • Tessa P is well while recovering from an infection in her leg that developed after she injured herself while rearing up in the gate during her last start.  She will be on the farm for a few weeks before resuming training next month.
  • U Kant Whip It is doing well at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck, as he is getting a little time off before turf races begin this spring in the Northeast.
  • Liam’s Map Colt and our Runhappy Yearling are both doing excellent at at Manuden Farm in Ocala.  See the amazing pictures that Group Member Cyn L snapped while visiting them on the farm earlier this week.
  • Lisa Limon and her Palace Malice filly both well at Hidden Brook Farm. Lisa Limon’s next booking will be with Connect, a top son of Curlin who stands at Lanes End and her due date with foal from Vino Rosso around the middle of March.

Horse by Horse News

Two big entries this weekend and also news from Monmouth Park that the Haskell will be held this year on Saturday July 23rd .

  • Street Facts is entered tomorrow at Gulfstream Park in Race 7 at about 3:35 pm. He has been training well and will be looking to break his maiden with Jockey Edwin Gonzalez aboard.  Good luck to all Group 69 Members and our partner Ralph Pastore.

Street Facts (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: January 7, 2022
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 49:45 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 23/49

  • Charge Account is entered on Saturday in the 3rd race at Aqueduct.  This is her first race back after a brief freshening on the farm this fall.  She gets top NY rider Manny Franco to begin her 2022 season.  If anyone is planning on attending, please let us know so we can make arrangements for you to see her saddled and with some luck possibly getting to the Winner’s Circle.  Good luck to all Group 65 members.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy absolutely “hated” the Tapeta surface at Gulfstream Park yesterday according to rider Paco Lopez. She broke sharp, tracked the leaders into the stretch and Paco protected her when it was clear she wasn’t going to win down the stretch. He said she “felt great, not tired really, would have been 1-2-3 if it had stayed on the grass”.  We will be looking to get her back in a race on the turf as she is ready
  • The Ghost of N Y, Life On the Edge and Fire's Finale are all scheduled to work tomorrow morning at Penn National.  Races for The Ghost of N Y, and Life On The Edge did not go this week and we are actively looking for spots for them as they both are ready to run.  Fire’s Finale doing well and is still on track for an Allowance race on January 28th.
  • Tessa P is training at Penn National with Mark Salvaggio well and should be back in the entries sometime next month.
  • U Kant Whip It is doing well at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck as he is getting a little time off before turf races begin this spring in the Northeast.
  • Liam’s Map Colt and our Runhappy Yearling are both doing excellent at at Manuden Farm in Ocala and are being prepped for the Ocala Spring 2 year old sales.
  • Lisa Limon and her Palace Malice filly both well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Lisa Limons’s next booking will be with Connect a top son of Curlin who stands at Lanes End and her due date with foal from Vino Rosso around the middle of March.

General News

With the Calendar turning to January 2022 Kenwood Racing’s Active Racing Group is now in full swing and we have begun looking for quality horses to claim at Gulfstream Park during the Winter Championship Meet.  A special thanks to all who have committed as members of this elite group.  With the holidays and some weather issues over the last week it was a quiet time for our horses but things will be picking up rapidly as described below.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for December 31, 2021

January 2, 2022 at 7:29 pm • By Anonymous

Horse by Horse News

  • U Kant Whip It had no excuse when trailing throughout today except not liking the dirt. He’d run well on the grass last time, grass racing is done in New York for the season, so we gave him a shot on the dirt today and he clearly didn’t care for it. Jockey Jose Lezcano said he protected him in the stretch, “the horse felt fine, no need to beat up on him and risk hurting him, he just hated the muddy track”. He seems totally sound and good out of the race so we’ll evaluate our options with him.
  • The Ghost of N Y was 5th today at Laurel Park. Really not a bad effort, made a run from well back to pass a few horses, just a bit overmatched against these as evidenced by his 30 to 1 odds coming off an impressive maiden win last time out. As mentioned previously we entered him 8 times and when none of them went for 2 weeks we took the race we could get here, a tough winner’s race coming off a weak maiden group in his win (which he did beat easily). We think at a little easier level at Penn National, he can get the money next time.
  • Fire's Finale fine out of his race this week and pointing towards an allowance in January at Penn National or Parx.
  • Street Facts breezed with Lasix last week and again today at Palm Meadows and worked great. He is ready to enter in the first race we can find at Gulfstream Park, Jan. 8th or 14th look like the most likely dates. We think the addition of Lasix should help Street Facts and would expect a good race from him.

  • Tracy Ann's Legacy is ready to enter and run. Hard a terrific work today at Palm Meadows and galloped well all week. While she may need a race to be at her best, she’s training very sharply now and we expect another big year with her. There’s a race Jan. 7th we are pointing for.
  • Charge Account is in New York and ready for her return. She had a terrific work last week and an easy work in the mud today and off of those will be entered in the next spot to run. There’s a couple of possible entries January 6 & 13th we are looking at. She’ll probably need the race off the layoff and return from the farm but it looks like she’s on track for another winning year for us in 2022.

Our 2022 Active Racing Club Program ARC2022 is just about full and set to begin in January. Horse by Horse News

  • In racing news, Life On the Edge was a game 3rd last night at Penn National. Battled hard to make the lead, tried every step of the way, another fine effort after a game 2nd last time. Off this while she’s a better horse on turf, we’ll give her another race or two on dirt before letting her have a brief winter freshening to have her ready when grass racing returns next spring.
  • The Ghost of N Y was entered twice last week and again four times this week at Laurel Park and Penn National and none of the races have gone. We’ve not been picky, we’ve entered short and long, from lower level claiming up to allowance, at multiple tracks because he’s doing well and we want to run. It’s a good example of how tough it can be to get races to go for certain types of horses. 2 year old maidens have plenty of options but once they win, races for winners are few and far between this time of year since only about 15% of all two year olds have broken their maidens even as late as December. He has been training great, after his sharp win on December 3rd and we are actively trying to find a spot for him to run. They did carry over an allowance race at Penn for the 3rd time today, that means they are trying to use it. They got up to five horses today, so perhaps it will go next week.
  • Fire's Finale was entered in a Pa. Bred Allowance for December 29th at Penn National and the race went. A competitive group but a nice short 7 horse field. Training well and hoping to end the year on a good note with him.
  • U Kant Whip It is doing well and we are entering him next week in a Maiden Race at Aqueduct scheduled for Dec. 31st.  Would be a perfect way to close out the year if he gets in and wins.
  • Street Facts fine out of his race where he found himself in some very tough company in a Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream Park with a real excuse (bumped). We are planning to breeze him and assuming he does well enter him early next month.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy is at Palm Meadows Training Center and has had a series of breezes.  May need a race to be at her best, first one back will do her good, but training nicely and we expect another big year with her. There’s a race Jan. 7th we are pointing for.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for December 9, 2021

December 11, 2021 at 2:23 pm • By Anonymous

General News

Sunday is our holiday party, all invited, We’ve received many RSVP’s (thank you!) but all welcome even at last minute.  A nice opportunity to celebrate another successful year and learn about a new, innovative and very exciting new program for the new year, ARC 2022!  The event will be held in Asbury Park in a beautiful event room in the building of Kenwood Racing partner Ellen Gaynor. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of easy parking on the street at this time of year, as well as a free parking garage a couple of blocks away. It’s a great opportunity for us to all be together for food and drink and for our team to offer our thanks for your support.

Horse by Horse News

  • On Saturday, Street Facts runs at Gulfstream Park. Doing well, last work was really good, ready for race and at a distance he should favor. He’s facing an exceptionally competitive group with well-bred entries by many top trainers (Pletcher, Casse, Mott, etc.). That’s normal for GP in winter, some of these horses could well end up running in triple crown preps here in the next few months, really good horses comes out of MSW races at GP this time of year. He’ll need a big effort here to compete, but has trained like a talented horse and we all feel deserves a shot at this level.
  • Of course celebrating a nice maiden win for The Ghost of NY and a game 2nd by Life On the Edge a few days ago, both of them came out of their races well and ready to run back once more time before year’s end. Same for U Kant Whip It in NY and Fire's Finale at Penn National, both well and ready to run in Dec.  Tessa P has been slow to come back to hand after acting up in the gate in her last, trainer Mark Salvaggio says she’s finally making good progress now.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy and Charge Account, two of our major success stories, are both nearing their returns from brief layoffs. Both claimed for bargain prices ($25,000 & $22,000), both have earned several times their purchases prices, won multiple allowance races (Tracy has placed in 2 stakes at Gulfstream as well), and been highly profitable to date. We hope they will be back in the entries by end of Dec. or early January. Our active racing program the last 2 years has done a standout job of coming up with horses like this, while at the same time winning with less successful claims that their new owners do a lot less with than we do. We claimed four horses this summer for example (R. Goodtime Charlie, Overdressed, Portal One, and The Ghost of NY), all of them have won for us, while of the three claimed away, only one has won so much as a single race (R Goodtime Charlie, who was then up the track yesterday). Our program finds bargain horses and gets them to the winner’s circle!
  • Our Runhappy and Liam’s Map yearlings both doing super in Ocala. Runhappy is #2 on the leading second crop sire list now, while Liam’s Map continues to throw top stakes winners. Both should be popular commodities if we decide to offer them for sale next year or top racing prospects for us.
  • Lisa Limon and her weanling filly both excellent in Kentucky!

Kenwood Racing Stables Notes for December 3. 2021

December 4, 2021 at 7:51 am • By Anonymous

General News

  • After a couple of quiet weeks, the action will be hot and heavy over the next few days.  Tonight, we have 3 horses running at Penn National.  The races will be broadcast on TVG2 not the regular TVG station. There is a live feed for Penn National that you can tap into to watch the races if you do not have access to TVG2 (see link).
  • If you can attend our Kenwood Racing year end get together in Asbury Park on Sunday December 12th, please RSVP if you have not done so already, as we are expecting a large turn out.
  • In addition, we have some exciting news from Monmouth Park.

Horse by Horse News

  • The Ghost of N Y is entered in Race 1 tonight at Penn National in what is now a 5 horse field after an early scratch.  He will get top rider Tyler Conner and currently is 2nd choice at odds of 5/2.  Trainer Mark Salvaggio has been very happy with his progress after a short freshening at Sunset Meadow Farm and expects a big effort from him tonight.  Good luck to our Active Racing Group and all Group 72 members as well as our partner Ralph Pastore.
  • Next up, Fire's Finale is entered in Race 6 at Penn National, a 5.5 furlong sprint,.  He has been training super and since there is nowhere else to run him we decided it was better to run now than sit in the barn.  The race comes up very tough and is more like a PA bred Stakes race than an Allowance.  He is the longest shot on the board in what is now a 7 horse race after an early scratch. That being said, he gets top rider Julio Hernandez in the irons, who guided him to a 2nd place finish back in August.  So,with the experienced rider and the way he has been training, he may give us a good surprise.  Good luck to all Group 56 members and our partner Ralph Pastore.
  • Later on. Life On the Edge will run in the 8th race at Penn National, 6 furlongs, on the dirt.  While the dirt track is not her preferred surface she holds a big class advantage over the rest of the now 7 horse field after an early scratch.  She has been training very well and also gets top rider Julio Hernandez, so we expect her to be very competitive in this spot.  Good luck to all Group 50 members.
  • U Kant Whip It is entered tomorrow at Aqueduct in the 6th race for a huge Maiden Special Weight purse of $80,000.  It is an overflow field of 10 and he is currently 15-1 on the morning line.  Top NY rider Jose Lezcano is up and Trainer Kelly Breen has been very happy with his recent works so we do think that he will have a good chance to be in the mix with a good trip and some racing luck.  Good luck to all Group 67 members and our partner Ralph Pastore.
  • Cup of Life is entered on Monday December 6th at Parx.  She also gets Julio Hernandez and is currently the 9/5 favorite.  We expect a solid effort from her as she proved that she can handle the surface at Parx after finishing 3rd over a sloppy track back on October 26.  Good luck to all Group 68 members and our partner Ralph Pastore as she will try to break here maiden.
  • Street Facts had a bullet work at Palm Meadows on Tuesday.  It was from the gate, on his own, Kelly told the rider to see if he’d go in 36 & change and he went a lot faster. Ready for the 11th, MSW at Gulfstream Park. There’s 2 races that day, 1 mile and 6 furlongs, we’ll prefer the 1 mile but run in either. Off this work and his excellent debut, we’re expecting a big race from him.
