Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

General News

Happy Derby Week Everyone!

With the upcoming Kentucky Derby on Saturday we know that the Northeast Racing Season will be in full swing in a few weeks.  Tracks are open to fans attending the races and with fingers crossed, we are hoping that the backside barns will be accessible for our Co-owners to see their horses in person very soon.  Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Monmouth Park Kentucky Derby Viewing Party in the Turf club on Saturday.

The April OBS sale was very competitive and the prices were high for horses that met our standards, so we were unable to find any real value there. We are now putting our efforts into finding some quality State Breds or a nice filly with pedigree at the upcoming Fasig- Tipton Sale of 2 year olds in training in the middle of May.

Horse by Horse News

  • Fire's Finale had a nice maintenance work today at Palm Meadows.  He was entered for an allowance race today at Gulfstream Park that didn’t go and we are looking at a small stakes race on May 15th at Gulfstream Park called “The Roar” or if not, shipping him up to Monmouth Park for a race at Parx.  Kelly said “he is ready to run”.

Fire's Finale (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: April 29, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Five Furlongs
Time: 1.01:60 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 2/4

  • Tracy Ann's Legacy fine out of her wire to wire win at Gulfstream Park and training towards entry in the Politely Stakes at Monmouth Park on May 30th
  • Adhwaa good out of her race at Parx and training well.
  • Tessa P and U Kant Whip It both will be breezing out of the gate this weekend and when they get their gate cards, they will not be far from being entered in a race.  Both could debut early in the Monmouth Park meet.
  • Life On the Edge excellent out of her race at Penn National and is rounding in to form for her next race in a couple of weeks.
  • Brynbella also fine out of her race at Penn National and should be ready to go again in about 2 weeks.
  • Charge Account will work again tomorrow and then may ship north to Monmouth Park unless something comes up for her at Gulfstream Park in the nest week or so.
  • Lisa Limon and her foal are doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map yearling also doing great.

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

  • Tracy Ann's Legacy wired the field under a masterful ride by Paco Lopez at Gulfstream Park. Paco got her out of the gate in her preferred spot on the lead immediately. She stayed in front with little urging and kicked away in the stretch when asked, to win her tune-up for the Politely Stakes at Monmouth Park on May 30th
  • Adhwaa had a dream set up at Parx on Monday where the speed went out very quickly setting the race up for her closing bid. But after being sandwiched at the start she just did not fire and finished a dull 8th.  Like all athletes sometimes it is just not your day
  • Tessa P and U Kant Whip It both worked out of a hand latched gate 3f in 36 flat this morning.  Kelly Breen is very happy with both of their progress so far and we are looking forward to their debuts this summer.

Tessa P (2-Year-Old Filly)
Date: April 22, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 36:00 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 4/19

  • Life On the Edge was shipped to Penn National with Mark Salvaggio, where she is entered in an Allowance race with a short field, Race 7 on Friday night.  We expect her to do well here as she has been training great.  If all goes well our plan is to ship her to Monmouth Park with Kelly Breen once racing begins there.
  • Brynbella has been training nicely at Penn National with Mark Salvaggio and is entered in Race 9 on Friday night as well.  It is also a short field and she will be trying a dirt surface for the first time in her career.  Mark says she has been training well on the surface at Penn and expects her to be very competitive here
  • Fire's Finale had a nice work today as well at 5f (see details below) and we are looking for a race for him at Gulfstream Park before he travels north to Monmouth Park for the season.

Fire's Finale (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: April 22, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Five Furlongs
Time: 1.00:25 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 1/5

  • Charge Account breezed 4f on the turf on Sunday and Kelly wants to work her one more time before entering her in a race.

Charge Account (4-Year-Old Filly)
Date: April 18, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 52:20 Breezing
Track Condition: Firm
Surface: Turf
Rank: 16/18

  • Lisa Limon and her foal are doing well at Hidden Brook Farm. Her Liam’s Map yearling also doing well.  Also late this afternoon we received the news that she is in foal to the Champion Vino Rosso.  She is proving to be a very special broodmare as she has gone into foal 3 years in a row after just one cover.

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

  • The Jockey Club has accepted the name U Kant Whip It for our new colt.  It was a twist on a name suggested by Tony Guacci a long time Kenwood Racing Triple Crown Co-Owner which honors both his Sire and Dam.  In addition he may get some notice from the Monmouth Park faithful as a new rule for this season, put in place by the NJ Racing Commission, states that a jockey’s use of the whip will be limited to being used only as a safety measure.  In my opinion not a very well researched change.  In addition, the colt had a nice work this morning in tandem with Tessa P our new filly.  Both 2 year olds are progressing well and in Kelly Breen’s opinion “Doing everything right”.

We are actively looking for some additional 2 year olds at the April OBS.  The Under Tack show has been going on all week and hopefully we will be able to find 1 or 2 nice horses at a reasonable price.

  • Tracy Ann's Legacy was entered for races multiple times last week that did not go.  Finally we caught a break and she is entered in a Starter Allowance on Sunday at Gulfstream Park with Paco Lopez up. She has been training well and is primed for a good run.
  • Adhwaa is entered in an Allowance race on Monday April 19th at Parx.  It is a softer spot than the Allowance at Aqueduct and Kelly felt that she would be well placed here.  She gets top rider Frankie Pennington who rode her to a second place finish at this track back in November.
  • Fire's Finale had a nice work yesterday and we are looking for a race for him at Gulfstream Park before he travels to Monmouth Park in a few weeks.  Here is the link to the video of his work.

Fire's Finale (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: April 14, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Five Furlongs
Time: 1.01:00 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 5/6

  • Seven Seven had his first timed breeze of the year at Belmont Park last Friday.  It went very well and he continues to move forward.

Seven Seven (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: April 9, 2021
Track: BELMONT PARK
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 37:84 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt training
Rank: 13/30

  • Life On the Edge was entered for a race that didn’t go this week at Aqueduct. She is doing great and ready to run so we are now looking at a possible entry at Penn National next week for her.
  • Charge Account is fine after her race and we are looking for something for her at Gulfstream Park before she comes to Monmouth Park.
  • Brynbella has been training nicely at Penn National with Mark Salvaggio and may be entered for a race next week.
  • Pango is also fine with Mark at Penn National.
  • Lisa Limon and her foal are doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map yearling also doing well.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for April 8, 2021

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

  • Tessa P our 2-year old Jimmy Creed – Montessa G filly, newly purchased at the March sale gets a warm welcome to the Kenwood Racing Stable.  She was named to honor Tessa Pastore the daughter of Ralph Pastore who has partnered with us in most of our horse groups over the last few years.  Tessa helps Ralph run his side of the partnership and we are glad to have them both as partners in our horses. Trainer Kelly Breen said Tessa P is well and will be breezing on Monday.
  • Fire's Finale has been galloping this week after running a slight temperature late last week. He is fine now and will be on the timed work tabs shortly getting ready for his 2021 debut. But the best news is that I received this message today from the Pennsylvania Horse Breeder’s Association.

Congratulations on winning the 2020 2-Year-Old Male Champion Award with Fire’s Finale!

A fine honor and there will be an online ceremony late in May for the presentation. I will include details when available

  • Tracy Ann's Legacy was entered for Saturday at Gulfstream Park but the race did not go and was brought back for Sunday and again it was not used.  We are actively looking for another race for her as she is ready to run.
  • Seven Seven continues to train well at Belmont Park and is scheduled to breeze 3 furlongs on Saturday.
  • Life On the Edge had a nice work last Saturday Belmont Park and we are looking for the right spot for her in the coming weeks.

Life On the Edge (4-Year-Old Filly)
Date: April 3, 2021
Track: BELMONT PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 48:70 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt training
Rank: 22/314

  • Pango is doing fine and had an easy work on Tuesday aiming at Penn National for a race for him once the turf season opens up on here in the Northeast.

Pango (6-Year-Old Gelding)
Date: April 6, 2021
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Five Furlongs
Time: 1.04:00 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 17/17

  • Adhwaa is doing well after her last race and there is a possible race for her on April 22nd at Aqueduct.
  • Charge Account is fine after her race last Sunday at Gulfstream Park after a puzzling trip as described by our Founder Robb Levinsky below. Charge Account was supposed to have made one late run as she did when winning last time, instead she broke sharply and Edgar Prado didn’t take her back so she chased the favored leader the entire way around and tired late to finish 7th. He wrapped up on her late after she was done and she came back totally fine. It was frankly a disappointing and puzzling ride as she won impressively with different tactics last time out, she broke so sharp he didn’t want to try to take her back and it didn’t work out. This is a very nice filly who as trainer Kelly Breen put it “will be a perfect starter allowance horse for Monmouth Park this summer”. Next time…
  • Brynbella has arrived at Penn National to train with Mark Salvaggio who did a wonderful job with Pango last year in a similar situation.
  • Our other new member of the Kenwood Racing family the Kantharos – Crack your Whip colt is doing well and will also breeze on Monday with Tessa P.
  • Lisa Limon and her foal are doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map yearling looks tremendous and really has grown into a beautiful looking horse. (see the video and article, A Stallion Putting Himself On the Map).  In a fortunate turn of events, Lisa Limon was bred to Vin Rosso the Breeders' Cup Champion by Champion and leading Sire Curlin. Lisa Limon was ready for breeding and in heat yesterday, but the previously planned stallion Bolt d’ Oro was overbooked and not available.  As a result of the mix up, we were given the option to breed to Vin Rosso a rare champion by a champion yesterday or wait until Lisa Limon was ready next month.  For us, the choice was easy and hopefully Lisa Limon will be pronounced in foal for the 3rd year in a row

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for April 1, 2021

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

Happy April Everyone!

  • Adhwaa was a well beaten third in a short field on Sunday at Aqueduct and while she does not like a sloppy track, she tried every step of the way to hit the board once again. The top two finishers are both NY stakes winners and were clearly at a different level but she gave a good effort and picked up a placing in a tough race with a very large purse, so overall a solid outcome.
  • Charge Account is doing well after her previous win and is entered in the 10th race at Gulfstream Park on Easter Sunday.
  • Brynbella  did not fire today and was completely outrun in a turf sprint at Gulfstream Park today.  Most likely she will be heading to Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio to face some easier competition in her next race.
  • Seven Seven continues to train well at Belmont Park and is about a week away from his first timed breeze after the layoff.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy is fine after her last race at Gulfstream Park and has been galloping to get ready for her next entry.  There is a possibility for a race on April 10th.
  • Fire's Finale worked 5f building up for his 2021 debut later this month.

Fire's Finale (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: March 27, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Five Furlongs
Time: 1.03:25 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 8/10

  • Life On the Edge fine out of her last race at Aqueduct.  We are looking for a spot for her in the next few weeks.
  • Pango is doing fine and working his way to a possible entry on April 30th at Laurel Park.
  • Our newest members of the Kenwood Racing family had excellent works Saturday morning with trainer Kelly Breen (see video, they are the inside two horses). The Jimmy Creed filly and the Kantharos colt worked with another one of Kelly’s two year olds and everything went perfect. “They could have worked faster if I wanted them to, that wasn’t what I was looking for now. They worked great and came back great, all good” – trainer Kelly Breen.
  • Lisa Limon and her Palace Malice foal are doing well at Hidden Brook Farm. The Liam’s Map yearling is also doing well.  Lisa Limon will be bred to the young sire Bolt D’Oro later this spring.

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

Back from a very successful sale in Ocala our new 2-year olds the Jimmy Creed filly and the Kantharos colt are doing great and galloping for Kelly Breen. Both groups sold out in less than 72 hours. A detailed report is being sent out by Jack in a separate email.  We are grateful for the expertise of Bloodstock Agent Jacob West who has become a key member of our team at various sales.  See an informative article about Jacob.

  • Tracy Ann's Legacy finished a hard trying 4th in a very tough allowance race today at Gulfstream Park.  The race was run in an incredibly fast time only 1 second over the track record.  Trainer Kelly Breen said she came back fine and we will look at a similar race for her in a few weeks.
  • Adhwaa is in the 6th race on Sunday at Aqueduct. It’s a short field including 2 stakes horses and she gets top rider Trevor McCarthy who won on her previously. She has been training great and we are hoping that the rain stays away since she has not performed well on a sloppy track.
  • Charge Account is doing well after her win last week and will be pointed to a similar race at Gulfstream Park on April 1st.
  • Fire's Finale had a sharp work in tandem with a Stakes filly from Kelly’s Barn. About 3 more timed works and he will be ready to run.  There are possible races for him on April 8th and 24th.

Fire's Finale (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: March 20, 2021
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 48:70 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 7/87

  • Life On the Edge fine out of her race last Saturday after tiring on the deep harrowed track at Aqueduct. We knew that she probably would need this one since it has been several months since she last raced and we expect her to move forward following this one.
  • Brynbella fine out of her race last Saturday at Gulfstream Park and will be looking to break her maiden in possible races on April 1st or 3rd.
  • Seven Seven continues to train well at Belmont Park for his 3yo debut later this spring.
  • Pango worked well Tuesday (see below) at Penn National and will be pointed for the first turf races this spring possibly the end of April at Laurel Park.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for March 18, 2021

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

Our team members did a terrific job at the OBS sale in Ocala this week, coming home with two tremendous buys!  The first is Hip 99 a filly by Jimmy Creed out of Montessa G.  The second is Hip 436 a NY bred colt by Kantharos out of Crack Your Whip.  The sale was tremendously competitive with sales average and median up significantly due to pent up demand.  You can read the results here. Kudos for the team in being able to identify and purchase these truly promising two year olds.  Watch for the official offering coming out in the next few days.  Both of these groups are sure to sell out quickly.

  • Charge Account What a great start for Group 65 and Charge Account!  In her first race for Kenwood Racing since being claimed, she moved up to a starter allowance race, was steadied twice in the race, yet still rallied for the win!  She should be a lot of fun for the rest of the spring and into the Monmouth Park season.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy finished a gutsy 3rd in the Captiva Island Stakes last week at Gulfstream Park.  She's now been stakes-placed twice since we claimed her.  She's likely to run once or twice more in Florida before shipping north -- the Politely Stakes on Monmouth Park's opening weekend will be a possible target.
  • Fire's Finale continues to point for his 3yo debut at Gulfstream Park next month, then up to Monmouth Park.
  • Adhwaa is doing well out of her latest victory and is targeting an allowance at the end of the month at Aqueduct with a huge $85,000 purse.
  • Life On the Edge was entered tomorrow (Friday) at Aqueduct for her 2021 debut 1st race post time 1:20pm. It’s a sprint and although she has proven to be better long, we want one under her belt to have her ready to go long next time.  Doing really well so still looking for a solid effort first time back.
  • Brynbella is entered in the 1st race on Saturday March 20 at Gulfstream Park post time 12:10pm for her Kenwood Racing debut.
  • Seven Seven is training very well at Belmont Park for his 3yo debut later this spring.
  • Pango is training very well at Penn National and will be pointed for the first turf races this spring.
  • Lisa Limon gave birth to a beautiful filly by Palace Malice.  Both mother and baby are doing fine (see photo).

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

Our team members are making our way to Ocala for the March 2 year-olds in Training Sale.  We will be looking to purchase 2-3 horses at reasonable prices to offer 5% shares in.  Updates will be sent out following any purchase.

  • Charge Account – What a great start for Group 65 and Charge Account!  Charge Account was super impressive today, winning a quality race first time off claim at Gulfstream Park. Paco Lopez said she’d have won by a lot more if she didn’t start looking around once she made the lead, we’ll make use of that next time. What a great way to begin this group!
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy finished a gutsy 3rd in the Captiva Island Stakes this past weekend at Gulfstream Park.  She's now been stakes-placed twice since we claimed her.  She's likely to run once or twice more in Florida before shipping north -- the Politely Stakes on Monmouth Park's opening weekend will be a possible target.
  • Fire's Finale had another good breeze this past week (see below) at Palm Meadows. Kelly very happy with how he’s progressing towards his 3yo debut end of next month.

  • Adhwaa is doing well out of her latest victory and is targeting an allowance at the end of the month at Aqueduct with a huge $85,000 purse.
  • Life On the Edge  was entered for a race on Sunday at Aqueduct for her 2021 debut, but the race didn’t go for Sunday.  It was brought back for next Friday, so hopefully it will go then.   It’s a sprint and although she has proven to be better long, we want one under her belt to have her ready to go long next time.  Doing really well so still looking for a solid effort first time back.
  • Brynbella is doing excellent, will be entered next week for races in 7-10 days.
  • Seven Seven is training well at Belmont Park and close to his first timed work since returning to training, on schedule to run in NY this spring
  • Pango is training very well at Penn National and will be pointed for the first turf races this spring.
  • Fightress finished 7th in a blanket finish at Gulfstream Park and was claimed away from us in her Kenwood debut last weekend.
  • Lisa Limon is now past her March 7th due date, but she did go a bit long last year, too.  She could foal any day at this point, and has started to bag up a bit.  She and her yearling colt by Liam's Map are both doing well (see walking video).

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

  • Adhwaa went from last-to-first with a photo finish in her race at Aqueduct last Friday under a great ride by Trevor McCarthy.  This time the photo went our way and she came out of the race perfect. We will now target an allowance at the end of the month at Aqueduct with a huge $85,000 purse. See article about upcoming purses at Belmont Park.
  • Fire's Finale had a bullet work at Palm Meadows in company without ever being asked for a lick of speed (video, outside, white cap).  Razor sharp and pointing for his 3yo debut at Gulfstream Park next month, then up to Monmouth Park.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for February 24, 2021

Kenwood Racing Weekly Horse Update

***Save the Date***

Kenwood Racing's first virtual seminar of 2021 will be held Thursday, March 4th at 7 pm.

Details will be emailed out this weekend.

  • Dahlonega was a well-beaten but hard trying 3rd today in a very tough allowance race at Gulfstream Park. As expected she was claimed from us out of this race. With the purse $ from the race the owners end up with a fine financial outcome, some action and a quick turnaround.

Claiming (and racehorses in general) is a numbers game; you look to run your hands through a fair number of horses looking for one or two special ones that make the business worthwhile. The others give you action and fun and hopefully come out much like this one. Congratulations to all the owners on a good result for our first claim of the season!

  • Adhwaa is entered in the 6th race at Aqueduct on Friday, Feb. 26th.  Per Kelly Breen's assistant trainer John Attfield, "She's trained super for this race, couldn't be doing any better."  See photo.
  • Blu Candy is entered in the 9th race at Penn National on Friday, Feb. 26th.  This is an ideal spot for her with a short field and fairly weak competition.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy was entered several times in a starter allowance race that wasn’t used.  We are now aiming for the Captiva Island Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday March 6th.
  • Life On the Edge per assistant trainer John Attfield, “She’s doing amazing, she looks like a little tank. Really eager to train. I want to give her two more works to have her really ready for a big race first time back”.  See photo and recent work info below.

Life On the Edge (4-Year-Old Filly)
Your comments for this horse were: KRP Racehorse, purchased OBS March 2019

Track: BELMONT PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 50:60 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt training
Rank: 91/107

  • Brynbella is doing well out of the race at Gulfstream Park where we claimed her last week.  She's a 3YO filly with a lot of potential and we will be looking for a race back for her soon.
  • Charge Account is fine out of the race where we claimed her earlier this week at Gulfstream Park. A proven older filly, we'll be looking for a race back for her in a few weeks.
  • Fightress is doing well, will be looking to run back in the couple of weeks.
  • Seven Seven per assistant trainer John Attfield, “I’ve just had him a couple of weeks, jogged him for a week and then turned him around and started galloping him. He’s doing everything just fine, no problems at all with anything.”  See photo.
  • Fire's Finale is doing well with trainer Kelly Breen at Palm Meadows, and was out for a little 1/4 breeze on Sunday.
  • Pango continues to do well in Ocala, and is scheduled to ship to trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National next week. Jaqui De Meric at Manuden Farm sent us a report today that “Pango worked very professional ¼ they went head n head 12.68, 25.04 out in 37.68 very nice”.
  • Lisa Limon is getting very close to her due date for her Palace Malice foal, although last year she was a bit late with her first foal.  Her Liam's Map colt is also doing well.
