General News

Kenwood Racing closed out the Monmouth Park Meet in style last Saturday with a 1st and 2nd from three runners before a large crowd of Kenwood Racing Partners and Co-owners.  We had 2 Parterre Suites with food and drink as well as 4 Clubhouse boxes to accommodate the crowd which included our partner Ralph Pastore who owns 25% of the horses.

  • Overdressed ran a hard trying 2nd in the second race at Monmouth Park and was claimed from us. She ran 4 times for us and had a win, 2 seconds and a third. Not a bad record at all.
  • The Ghost of N Y ran in the fourth race at Monmouth Park and was not at his best, finishing a tired 8th, but has been fine for the last few days and should be ready to race again in a few weeks.

  • Fire’s Finale had a great work this morning and is training light out, very similar to last fall when he won the Nursery Stakes at Parx as a 2 year old.  He is being pointed to a $100 K Stakes at Penn National on October 22nd and we feel confident that he will be on the top  of his game for this one.  More details to come when available.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 23, 2021

General News

Back from the Keeneland September yearling sale and celebrating the purchase of Hip #2291, a truly striking colt by the popular young sire, champion sprinter Run Happy. This yearling’s young dam is a sister to the major multiple Stakes winner Florida One, from the family of broodmare of the year Oatsee (Dam of Preakness winner and sire Shackleford among other stakes winners). Most of all, he’s a good-looking, sound individual, raised at the famed Claiborne farm in Kentucky. This group is almost certain to sell out very quickly.

A big weekend ahead at Monmouth Park with 5 different entries over the next 2 days.  All are welcome to join us to celebrate another wonderful season on Saturday where we will have 2 private Parterre Suites all afternoon with some complimentary food and drinks (as well as our regular Clubhouse finish line Box seats).  All Group members are welcome but Please RSVP if you are planning to attend so we can arrange space for you.

Horse by Horse News

  • Life On the Edge  is entered for a turf sprint at Monmouth Park on Friday, September 24th, but will only run if the race stays on the grass, which does not seem likely with a forecast of heavy rain overnight.  If that is the case, then she will be entered Saturday for a turf race on Thursday, September 30th at Delaware Park.  She is really ready to run as you can see from her last Workout below on Sept 17th.

Life On the Edge (4-Year-Old Filly)
Date: September 17, 2021
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 48:40 Handily
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 1/14

  • Overdressed is entered in Saturday’s 2nd Race at Monmouth Park, in an aggressive spot to try to get another win for us.  It is a 7 horse field and she is the 8/5 morning line favorite.
  • The Ghost of N Y is next up in the 4th Race at Monmouth Park.  He will be stretching out to a mile and is 8-1 on the morning line.  He has shown some good closing ability and we are hoping the extra distance does the trick.
  • R Goodtime Charlie and Portal One are both entered in the 10th Race at Monmouth Park with R Goodtime Charlie the 2-1 morning line favorite in his debut for us.

Portal One (3-Year-Old Gelding)
Date: September 19, 2021
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 47:00 Handily
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 3/52

  • Street Facts had a very good timed work at Monmouth Park on Saturday, September 18th and Trainer Kelly Breen was very pleased how he is doing in all respects.   He should be ready to work from the gate in a couple of weeks to get his gate card.  Looks like if all goes well he will be ready to race in late October.

Street Facts (2-Year-Old Colt)
Date: September 18, 2021
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 36:20 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 5/11

  • Fire's Finale  had a great work this morning at Monmouth Park.  Some comments from Robb, “Yes, fast, but more important easily and in hand. This horse really telegraphs how he is doing with his works (not all do). When he works quick and easily, he’s sitting on a big race. Recall last year after not winning his first 6 starts (close but no wins), he broke his maiden at Parx. We gave him time between races off the maiden win; he worked exceptionally well, came into the Pa. Nursery stakes doing super, and won going away from dead last to capture 2yo Pa. bred champion honors. We are pointing him for a $100,000 stake at Penn National the 3rd week in Oct. with a similar program and he’s right on target for a big effort. Never any guarantees in any race with any horse, but the way he’s training now he’ll come into it with a real shot.”

  • Cup of Life  is fine after her race at Monmouth Park and will work this week to get off the Vet’s list.
  • Charge Account  and Tracy Ann's Legacy are both enjoying their short stay at Sunset Meadow Farm.  Charge Account will go to New York for the winter and Tracy Ann’s Legacy will head to Gulfstream Park where she can continue to run on her preferred turf surface or perhaps on the new Tapeta Course there.

General News

The Keeneland September yearling sale begins next Monday, with our Liam’s Map – Lisa Limon yearling scheduled to sell a week from Sunday, September 19th. He’s hip#1553, you can view pedigrees and watch the entire auction live streamed on the Keeneland website.  We are looking to purchase 2-3 yearlings at this sale, probably during the period of Sept. 20-22nd. Stay tuned for news from the sale next week!

Horse by Horse News

  • Fire's Finale couldn’t have run harder or better this evening in a very tough allowance event at Penn National, finishing a very game 2nd, beaten about 1 length for the win while over 5 lengths ahead of the rest of the field. He sat a dream trip in 3rd under jockey Tyler Connor, made a sustained run in the stretch but just couldn’t get by the equally game winner, who withstood an early speed battle and refused to lose. The race was run in a sizzling fast time, 1:10.12 and showed Fire’s Finale is able to compete against quality horses in fast run races. It was very similar to the game 2nd he ran last time against state breds at Penn except this was tougher open company not restricted to state breds). While we all want to see him back in the winner’s circle, he’s in great form now and at this level as a Pa. bred picks up nice checks anytime he hits the board (almost $7,000 here for 2nd).
  • Life On the Edge is shipping back from Penn National to Monmouth Park with Fire’s Finale this evening to run in a race on Saturday, September 18th. If the race does not go, we’ll have to return her to Penn National for a race there the following week, but we know her owners want to see her run at Monmouth Park where she had so much success last year and we are hoping the race goes for her on the 18th. If she runs well there she can stick around to run at The Meadowlands next month too. Turf racing gets tough to find around this time of year and she’s a better turf horse than a dirt horse, so we need to take any suitable spot we can find for her, but the goal is to run at Monmouth Park.
  • Cup of Life runs Saturday in the first race at Monmouth Park. Comes into it off two good debut efforts, beaten just a length for the win when a very game third last time. Fits well with this group and we are looking for a big race from her here.
  • The Ghost of N Y doing fine and an opportunity came up so we entered him for Sunday and the race went at Monmouth Park. It’s a large 11 horse field, but he’s trained well for this and gets top rider Jose Ferrer, who has the aggressive riding style we hope will fit this horse. The Ghost of N Y lagged early in both his starts and came running late. Hopefully Jose will get him in the game a little earlier. If Jose can do that we expect him to run well here.
  • Charge Account & Tracy Ann's Legacy will both receive a brief and richly deserved vacation at Sunset Meadow Farm, about 30-40 days turned out in a nice little paddock to enjoy the fresh air and then back to training. Both have been major success stories for us, racing hard and well for over a year now without a break in training while winning multiple allowance races and earning major $. Both came out of their recent starts none the worse for wear fortunately but both appear tired and not as sharp in their last couple of starts as they were previously. That’s a signal, especially with good, money-making winning horses like these, that they need a little freshening. This is the ideal time to do it, while the weather is good, and they should be back with Kelly Breen before the end of Oct. Anyone who would like to visit them at the farm once they arrive is welcome to contact George to make arrangements
  • Our newest horse R Goodtime Charlie training well for Group 73 and our Active Racing Group.  He has been in the money 9 out of 11 races for his career including 2 wins and we are looking forward to some good things with him.  There may be a race for him coming up on closing weekend, September 25th at Monmouth Park.
  • Overdressed ok out of her last start, another excellent effort when a fast-closing 3rd at Monmouth Park on September 4th. This super consistent filly has two thirds and a win in just a few weeks’ time since being claimed by us in July.
  • Portal One is fine out of his last race at Monmouth Park after being pulled up by Jockey Nik Juarez after feeling him take an awkward step on the Sloppy sealed track.  If all continues to go well there is a race on September 25th that he may ready for.
  • Street Facts is training well and is expected to have his first timed work since returning from the farm next week.
  • Tessa P and U Kant Whip It are doing both excellent at Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio.  Both should be ready for their first timed works since returning from the farm shortly also.
  • Lisa Limon and family all doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map Colt is ready for the September Yearling Sale and her weanling filly by Palace Malice is really thriving on the farm.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 3, 2021

General News

Sorry for the late release but a very busy week including an excellent seminar on Purchasing Yearlings last night by Robb.  Thanks to all who attended this very informative presentation, as we are looking forward to attending the Keeneland Yearling Sale in 2 weeks.  In addition, our Liam’s Map - Lisa Limon Colt is scheduled to be on the auction block Sunday September 19th at the sale.  You can view the Auction through the Keeneland Sales Website.

Horse by Horse News

  • We welcome our newest horse R Goodtime Charlie to the Kenwood Racing Stable for Group 73 and our Active Racing Group.  He is a 3 year old gelding who has been in the money 9 out of 11 races for his career including 2 wins.  We are looking forward to some good things with him.  There may be a race to enter on Saturday September 25th at Monmouth Park.
  • Overdressed is entered tomorrow Saturday in the 7th Race at Monmouth Park. It is a short field of 7 going 5 ½  furlongs on the dirt.  She is coming off a big win on August 15th with many Co-owners and our partner Ralph Pastore and his family in attendance.  She and rider Nik Juarez are looking to make it 2 in a row.   Good luck to our Active Racing Group and all of Group 70.
  • Charge Account  is entered for the Main Track Only in the Salvatore M. Debunda PTHA President's Cup Stakes on Monday September 6th  the 11th Race at Parx.  As of now, it does not look like the weather will take the race off the turf so if it remains on the grass she will not run.  We will send out notification for sure either way on Monday morning.  If she does not run Monday, there are a few other options in the next 2 weeks.
  • Fire's Finale is entered on Thursday September 9th in the 6th race at Penn National.  Top jockey Tyler Conner will be aboard in this 6 furlong Allowance with a short field of 6.  He is ready to go and really was full of himself yesterday in the barn.  Good luck to all Group 56 Co-owners.
  • Portal One is fine out of his last race at Monmouth Park, after being pulled up by Jockey Nik Juarez after feeling him take an awkward step on the Sloppy sealed track.  We applaud Nik for being cautious with him as the health of the horse is our primary concern.   After his next work, he will be thoroughly examined by the vet before being cleared to race.  If all goes as well, as we think it will, there is a race on September 25th that he may be entered in.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy is training well after the long round trip to Colonial Downs in Virginia and may be entered for an Allowance sprint next Saturday September 11th.
  • Cup of Life also well after her hard trying 3rd last weekend at Monmouth Park.  There are several options for her in about 2 weeks at either Monmouth Park, Delaware Park or Laurel Park.
  • The Ghost of NY doing fine and we are looking at a possible entry for September 19th at Monmouth Park
  • Street Facts is doing well and will be ready for timed works soon.
  • Tessa P and U Kant Whip It are doing both excellent according to trainer Mark Salvaggio.  Tessa P will be ready for a timed work in about a week and U Kant Whip It a few days later.  Mark said “he has really come around now”
  • Life On the Edge  fine out of her race and may run back in 2 weeks at either Monmouth or Penn.
  • Adhwaa was claimed from us on Wednesday after finishing a tired 5th in the slop at Parx.  She earned over $100K for us in just over 1 year including winning an Allowance race in NY last winter.  Congratulations to all Group 60 Co-owners, who will be receiving a nice payout from her efforts.
  • .Lisa Limon and family all doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map Colt is ready for the September Yearling Sale.

A lot of to report on multiple entries and a change of date for the Power Point Seminar about purchasing Yearlings.  The new date and time will be Thursday September 2nd at 7 pm.  An invite will be sent out shortly to all.

  • Cup of Life is entered in the 6th race at Monmouth Park on Saturday August 28th. She has been training well and we look for her to move forward after her last race. Nik Juarez will be riding in an 8 horse field where she is 4-1 on the early line.  Good luck to all Group 68 Co-owners. Please let me know if you are planning on attending the race so we can organize seating for all.

Nik Juarez will also be the rider in an 8 horse field where he is 5-1.  Hoping for good things from his Kenwood debut. It is possible that the track will be wet as heavy rain is a possibility Friday night and his past performance shows that he broke his Maiden over a sloppy surface.  Good luck to our active Racing Group and Group 71. If you plan to attend please let me know.

Group 50 Co-owner Frank Dielsi contacted me after seeing the entry information and had the following comment.

“8/31 was my uncle's birthday. He loved the name of this horse when he bought me into the group shortly before he lost his cancer battle. I think she will win next week.”

We all hope that he is correct and wish Frank and all Group 50 Co-owners the best of luck Tuesday night.

  • Fire's Finale and Adhwaa both worked very well yesterday.  Trainer Kelly Breen was very pleased with both efforts. Fire’s Finale ran away from his workmate and really has come around.  He will be entered for a race at Penn on September 8th. Adhwaa will be entered MTO for next Wednesday Sept 1st at Parx.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 19, 2021

August 20, 2021 at 10:21 am • By Anonymous

Horse by Horse News

A lot of good news to report including a big win and multiple entries and a new claim.   First off, I just want to thank everyone who responded to our question regarding the September Fasig-Tipton Yearling Sale.  As a result, we are happy to announce that we will be attending the sale with the hope of purchasing a couple of young horses to add to our stable.  For those who are interested please keep Tuesday evening Sept 7th open for a short power point presentation.

  • The Ghost of NY  a 2 year old gelding was added to the stable after being claimed for 40K at Monmouth Park on Saturday afternoon.  He came out of the race with no issues and should be ready to run again in September.  There is a great spot for him at Monmouth Park on September 19th.
  • Overdressed was entered Sunday August 15th in the 6th at Monmouth Park  and gave a large crowd of Kenwood Co-owners and Partners, including our partner Ralph Pastore and his family, a huge thrill when she flew home under Nik Juarez to a 2 length win over the Monmouth dirt.  She won going away and came back perfect.  There is a possible slot for her on Labor Day weekend Saturday September 4th.
  • Charge Account and Tracy Ann's Legacy will be heading to Colonial Downs in Virginia on Monday August 23rd for some big purses.  Charge Account has been training super and is entered in the 100K Love Sign Stakes.  She is 8 to 1 on the morning line and has a good shot if she takes a step forward.  She has won multiple allowance races for us since being claimed for 25K this past winter at Gulfstream Park and certainly has earned her way into this spot.  Trainer Kelly Breen was the one who suggested entering her so he has total confidence that she can compete at this level.  Tracy Ann’s Legacy is entered in the ninth race the same day in a huge 12 horse field with a 60K purse.  There is some other speed in the race and she is one of 3 horses at about 5-1 on the morning line.  If she breaks sharply from the gate and gets a good trip, she should be very tough here.  If anyone is planning on attending please let us know as Robb will be there with some other local Co-owners.

Charge Account (4-Year-Old Filly)
Date: August 15, 2021
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 47:60 Handily
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 2/60

  • Portal One has been training well and is entered in Race 3 at Monmouth Park on Sunday August 22.  He is ready to run and while not getting a favorable post this is a good spot for him with Nik Juarez up in an 8 horse field.
  • Life On the Edge  training well and has been entered in the 7th race at Delaware Park on Wednesday August 25th.  She gets Julio Hernandez in the irons in a large 12 horse field going 7 ½ furlongs on the turf.  This is a good spot for her at the right level.
  • Fire's Finale excellent out of his last start and may be entered in a similar race on September 8th at Penn National.
  • Cup of Life  came back fine from her last race and we will look for a race for her at Monmouth Park sometime in the next 2 weeks..
  • Street Facts doing fine with Kelly Breen at Monmouth Park.
  • Adhwaa is fine and may be entered at Timonium on August 27 or 28th. Details to follow.
  • Tessa P put on a lot of weight at the farm and is training very well at Penn National with Mark Salvaggio.
  • Lisa Limon and family all doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map Colt is excellent while getting prepped for the September Yearling Sale. See the picture of our yearling colt in front of the barn at Hidden Brook farm.

Horse by Horse News

  • Fire's Finale was a game 2nd, beaten about ½ length for the win in a blanket finish at Penn National. A little trouble on the backstretch settling and in tight between 3 horses when making his move inside the 16th pole but ran very gamely and galloped out well ahead of the field.  Looking to get a race at Monmouth Park for him before the meet closes.
  • Cup of Life had a very solid debut last Sunday at Delaware Park. Totally left at the break, dead last most of the way shying from dirt in her face, got clear in the stretch and rallied nicely to get 3rd while closing well late.  She came back fine and we will look for a race for her at Monmouth sometime in the next few weeks.
  • Overdressed is entered Sunday August 15th in the 6th at Monmouth Park. She has Nik Juarez up in a 7 horse field on the dirt which is her preferred surface.  Good luck to all Group 70 Co-owners.
  • Charge Account and Tracy Ann's Legacy may be heading to Colonial Downs in Virginia on Monday August 23rd for some big purses. Charge Account  came out of her impressive win so well and ran such a good time that trainer Kelly Breen has nominated her for the $100,000 Love Sign Stakes at Colonial Downs Aug. 23rd. You can see the past performances of the nominees attached above. This is NOT the field for the race, only a some of these will run. By no means certain she’ll run but pointing for the race. That’s the same day Tracy Ann’s Legacy is scheduled to run at Colonial in an allowance race with a large $60,000 purse so could be a very exciting day, mark your calendars and stay tuned!
  • Life On the Edge feeling good after her race and will be entered at either Penn National or Monmouth Park towards the end of the month.
  • Portal One training well and there is a race for him to be entered next weekend at Monmouth Park.
  • Adhwaa is fine and we are looking for a race for her in the next couple of weeks.
  • Tessa P and U Kant Whip It both headed back to training this week. Both doing well after the time off at Sunset Meadow Farm.
  • Lisa Limon and family all doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map Colt is excellent while getting prepped for the September Yearling Sale. Here is a video of him walking in the barn area at Hidden Brook Farm.  Doing all the right things for a young horse so far.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 5, 2021

Horse by Horse News

  • After another good work on July 31st Cup of Life will debut in the first race Saturday August 7th   at Delaware Park. It is 5f on the main track and veteran rider Jaime Rodriguez will be aboard in the short 6 horse field.  Please remember that 2 year olds are very unpredictable in how they react to racing conditions and most usually need a race under their belt before showing their best.  That said, she has been training very well and has a preferred outside post so we are looking for a good start with her.

Cup of Life (2-Year-Old Filly)
Date: July 31, 2021
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 48:40 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 6/69

  • Fire's Finale is entered in Race 6, a six furlong Allowance Race at Penn National on Tuesday August 10th.  He gets top jockey Julio Hernandez in an eight horse PA Bred field.  Although it is not his preferred distance he is ready to run and this is the best option available.  With a little lower level of competition than he has been facing we look for him to move forward in this spot.
  • Life On the Edge comes off a very game effort in her race last Friday at Penn National.  She was trailing the field at the ½ mile marker and began to pick up steam and came rolling down the stretch to just miss catching the leader by a head.  She came out of the race well and is really rounding into form to be very competitive going forward.
  • Overdressed and Portal One both doing well and will be entered for races at Monmouth Park in the coming weeks.  Looking forward to seeing how these two will perform after a few weeks under Kelly’s training.
  • Charge Account well out of her race last week at Delaware Park and we will be looking for an Allowance for her in the coming weeks.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy also doing well and we are actively looking for a race with a little class relief from her last few in order to give her an easier opportunity to get back in the Winner’s Circle.
  • Adhwaa is fine out of a disappointing performance last Friday at Penn National.  We will also be looking for something with a little class relief for her as well for her next effort.
  • Tessa P and U Kant Whip It both well at Sunset Meadow Farm.
  • Street Facts has returned to Monmouth Park and resumed training this week after a six week freshening at Sunset Meadow Farm.
  • Lisa Limon and family all doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map Colt is doing excellent while getting prepped for the September Yearling Sale.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for July 29, 2021

Horse by Horse News

A lot of good news!

  • To begin we want to welcome Portal One to the Kenwood Racing Stable.  He is a Florida Bred 3 year old gelding, who has been in the money in 6 of his 9 starts with 2 wins and 3 seconds.  He ran very well in his first start on turf rallying gamely in the stretch.  This versatile young horse is a great addition to our Active Racing Group as Group 71.
  • Charge Account travelled to Delaware Park yesterday and came up a big winner in the 7th race with Jockey Nik Juarez aboard capturing her portion of the 42K purse. Nik kept her just behind the speed and had to overcome being 5 wide on the far turn to overtake the leaders and coast home by a rapidly widening margin.  This filly has now won 3 out of her first 6 races for us and has proven to be an excellent claim earning just under 75K or an average of 12K per race.  Congratulations to all Group 65 Co -owners and our Partner Ralph Pastore and his family.
  • Tracy Ann's Legacy was in the 5th race at Monmouth Park last Friday finishing a hard trying 3rd.   She made the lead breaking from the 6 hole and just could not hold on as the Winner finished less than ½ second off the track record. She gave it her best effort and really battled down the stretch to earn a nice paycheck of $6500.  She is a hard trying mare who always gives a top effort and has earned her way and then some for the whole group.  There are some options for class relief for her next race so more promising results may come in the near future.
  • Overdressed made her Kenwood Racing debut on Saturday in the 5th race at Monmouth Park.  Having only raced on turf once before, she took well to the surface, finishing a closing third.  She galloped out strongly passing the leaders after the wire.  A nice purse in her first race for us!  This race gives us a lot of options with this promising young filly, dirt or turf.  She will be fun to watch going forward!
  • Life On the Edge is entered tomorrow in the 2nd race at Penn National with top rider Julio Hernandez.  Trainer Mark Salvaggio has been pointing her towards this spot and expects a big effort from her in this short field of 6. Good luck to all Group 50 Co-owners
  • Adhwaa also draws a nice spot tomorrow in the 8th race at Penn National.  She also gets Julio Hernandez in the irons and will be at her preferred distance of 1 mile for a nice 28K purse in this Allowance race.  We expect her to have an excellent showing, as she has been training great.
  • Cup of Life had another good work on July 27th. Trainer Kelly Breen said she is ready for her debut.  There are a few options and will send details when finalized.
  • Fire's Finale is doing fine after his last race ant Parx d we are actively looking for the right spot for him to make his next start.  Will update when we find the right fit.
  • Tessa P, U Kant Whip It, and Street Facts all well at Sunset Meadow Farm. Trainer Kelly Breen and I visited them yesterday and all is well.  Street Facts will return to Monmouth Park to resume training early next week with the other two will not far behind.
  • Lisa Limon and family all doing well at Hidden Brook Farm.  Her Liam’s Map Colt is doing excellent while getting prepped for the September Yearling Sale.
