Stable Notes May 23, 2024
Hi All,
A very busy weekend upcoming with races tonight, Saturday, Sunday and possibly Monday on tap. We also will have our first Breakfast and Backside morning training session at 8 am on Saturday at Monmouth Park. We will watch morning training from the beautiful Summer Wind Patio in front of Monmouth Park’s Clubhouse and then proceed to the stable area to see our horses in Kelly Breen’s barn including our 2-year-old Vino Rosso / Lisa Limon 23 filly. We have a few shares available in Group 96 which was recently formed for her racing career. We the still have room for a few more so if you can make it, please let us know as soon as possible.
Miti Fast Flower will kick off the racing tonight at Penn National in Race 3 (see details below and pp’s attached above). Scott’s pre-race comments are below. Good luck to all Kenwood Partners, Group 84 Members and Trainer Mark Salvaggio.
Race day for MITI FAST FLOWER, and we’re excited to get her back to the starting gate to kick off the Summer of her 3YO season! There was one scratch in the race, with the #4-Woodland Glade no longer running; so we are down to eight runners, with the two ML favorites breaking from the inside #1 and #2 post positions. Miti Fast Flower is 6-1 on the ML and had her sharpest breeze two weeks ago, when she broke from the gate, just like in a race. Mark says she is doing well coming out of that breeze and into the race, so we’re expecting a big effort from her off the break with the drop in class. All the early speed horses on paper are posted to her inside tonight, so a clean break should allow her to get first shot at settling off the early pace, saving some ground before making a big run at the Quarter Pole and down the stretch. Penn National saw some heavy rains this morning from a couple fast-moving storms, but Mark was confident the track would dry out by post time tonight since no other rain was in the forecast. No indication of the track condition yet, but a Fast track is preferred!

Butterfly Queen and Wind Ninety Nine are both entered on Saturday May 25th In Races 3 and 6 respectively. They each have had two breezes since our last update and Trainer – Partner Kelly Breen feels that they both are ready to go (details and work results are below and pp’s are attached above) Scott’s initial comments are below.
BUTTERFLY QUEEN has been entered in a nice spot right at Monmouth Park on Saturday in Race 3 with a Post Time at 1:52 PM! Paco Lopez is back aboard for the 8.5-furlong turf route, and they drew the #1 Post Position amongst a full field of ten runners and is currently 4-1 and second favorite. There are a couple others dropping down from competitive Maiden Special Weight races, but she is doing great and we’re expecting a big race from her on Saturday. Hopefully the rains hold off, and we’re on the turf this weekend! Just three races later on Saturday, we also have WIND NINETY NINE entered in Race 6; a one mile route on the dirt, with a Post Time at 3:24 PM. He will get one of the notable newcomers to the Monmouth jockey colony, Vincent Cheminaud, breaking from mid pack in the #4 Post Position in the shorter field of seven runners. Currently third pick at 7-2. Both horses are coming into the race doing well, and all three of our runners had maintenance breezes again this past Sunday, because conditions were ideal and the horses were ready to go

HASKELL PREVIEW DAY FEATURES FOUR $150,000 PREP RACES
AS A PRELUDE TO NYRA BETS HASKELL STAKES CARD AT MONMOUTH
OCEANPORT, N.J. – Four $150,000 stakes races – three of them Grade 3 events – will again headline Monmouth Park’s Haskell Preview Day on Saturday, June 15, as a prelude to the NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes Day on Saturday, July 20.
The NYRA Bets Pegasus Stakes, the Grade 3 Monmouth Stakes, the Grade 3 Salvator Mile and the Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes will serve as the local preps for the Haskell Stakes Day card.
The $1 million, Grade 1 NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes, the highlight of the 51-day meet, is supported by an undercard featuring the $600,000, Grade 2 United Nations, the $400,000, Grade 3 Monmouth Cup, the $500,000, Grade 3 Molly Pitcher and the $300,000, Grade 3 WinStar Matchmaker Stakes.
Monmouth Park’s 79th season gets underway on Saturday, May 11. Live racing runs through Sunday, Sept. 15.
The 43rd running of Pegasus Stakes, for 3-year-olds at a mile and a sixteenth, is the Shore track’s prep race for the nine-furlong Haskell. The top two finishers in the Pegasus Stakes receive a free entry fee and start fees for the Haskell Stakes.
The Grade 3 Monmouth Stakes, for 3 year olds and up going a mile and an eighth on the turf, is a stepping stone for the United Nations, which is contested at a mile and three-eighths on the grass. The top two finishers in the Monmouth Stakes receive free entry and start fees to the United Nations.
The winner of the 77th edition of the Grade 3 Salvator Mile, for 3 year olds and up, receives free entry and start fees to the Monmouth Cup.
The Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf for fillies and mares, 3 and up, has the added bonus for the winner of free entry and start fees to the WinStar Matchmaker Stakes.
We will not have any entries during the first two weekends at Monmouth Park as the bulk of the stable has just recently shipped up from Florida and have settled in with Kelly Breen and his staff on the backside (see attached pictures above). The end of the month will be very busy with five possible entries over the extended Memorial Day Weekend.
Miti Fast Flower had a nice work from the gate on Tuesday and Trainer Mark Salvaggio was pleased and has deemed her ready for her 2024 debut. There is a Maiden claiming race on Thursday May 23rd at Penn National that we are pointing her towards. We will keep you posted once she has an entry confirmed.

Wind Ninety Nine has a possible entry on Saturday May 25th and Outlaw Country will be entered for a turf race on Sunday May 26th over Memorial Day Weekend at Monmouth Park.
Butterfly Queen and Calming Sea are both currently being considered for races on Memorial Day Monday May 27th at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland as there are no races for them in the first Monmouth Condition Book. This may change if races come up for them on the Monmouth Overnights next week.
Red Head Italian is well and really enjoyed the visit by Kenwood Partners and Group Members last Sunday at Overbrook Farm. She ate a full bag of carrots and posed for many pictures from her stall. Recovery is going well so far and she should be ready for some light exercise early in June.
Cali Heat continues to recover from a deep cut that he sustained in his stall back in March and we are looking forward to getting him back into training once the wound is fully healed.
Our Vino Rosso / Lisa Limon filly continues to train well, and we are looking forward to her arrival in New Jersey shortly. We will be giving her a name soon with suggestions from Group members and Kenwood Partners under consideration.
Our Connect filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. See report from Sergio below.

Monmouth Park will be holding a Kentucky Derby viewing Party on Saturday May 4th in the Turf Club. The cost is $55 per person and if you are interested, I can send you the details and if there are enough who want to attend, we can get a table for the group.
Wind Ninety Nine has had two additional breezes (see details and videos below) in preparation for his debut for our ARC24 group on Wednesday April 18th (see details below and pp’s attached above) in Race 3 at Gulfstream Park. He will have Paco Lopez aboard going a flat mile from post five on the main dirt track in this Starter Allowance Optional Claiming event which is the distance and surface where he has three wins in four tries. At 8-1 on the opening line, he will have to recapture that past form in order to best this group of veteran runners. Good luck to our ARC24 Group and Trainer - Partner Kelly Breen.

Outlaw Country is entered for our ARC23 Group on Sunday April 21st at Gulfstream Park in race 9 going five furlongs on the synthetic track (see details below and pp’s attached above). He had a maintenance breeze on Friday shown below and I have included Scott’s initial comments on the race below. Good luck to our ARC23 Group and Trainer- Partner Kelly Breen.
OUTLAW COUNTRY will get one more try at Gulfstream Park to get back into the Winner’s Circle, before heading to his favorite turf course at Monmouth Park! Carded as Race 9 on Sunday’s card, April 21st, Outlaw Country drew the #7 post position in a field of nine runners with Paco Lopez back in the irons; an ideal post position for his off-the-pace running style, and the same position he has broken from in his last two starts. This is also the same Starter Allowance Optional Claiming level he’s been running in all Winter, posting a 4:1-3-0 running line, along with nearly $40,000 in earnings. He comes into this race doing as well as ever showing no signs of tiring to Kelly and his team. While it’s unfortunate we haven’t been able to get him on the Turf course at Gulfstream Park, or in a State-Bred race for that matter(!), Outlaw Country has earned his keep while down in Florida racing on the Synthetic track and got to breeze on the beautiful turf course at Palm Meadows all Winter; something he doesn’t get to do while at Monmouth! I

Miti Fast Flower had another timed work for Trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National last Wednesday. Scott’s comments are below.
Some more progress for MITI FAST FLOWER this past week. Trainer Mark Salvaggio had her back on track for a 4-furlong breeze and she has come out of it doing great. As we often say, workout times really don’t mean much, and especially at this point in her training. Mark was not looking for a fast time, and just wanted to see her engaged in a formal workout while running through the wire. Albeit a slow time for 4-furlongs, the Equibase Workout Notification is below, Mark was happy with how she looked, but even happier with how she came out of it! He texted me this morning, unprompted, “Flower is going good, going to be more aggressive now.” It’s a sign that Mark sees the right progress with her conditioning and foundation, and we’re excited for this next step in her progress. We’ll continue to keep you posted along the way, and I have attached a photo from Mark during her breeze (see above).

Calming Sea is recovering well from her last race where it was discovered that she had some inflammation in her air passage post - race which more than likely contributed to her tiring in the stretch. She was given some antibiotics to clear up the problem and should be back on the track shortly. It is possible that she will run one more time at Gulfstream before travelling north to Monmouth Park the first week of May.
Cali Heat continues to recover from a deep cut that he sustained in his stall a couple of weeks ago and we are looking forward to getting him back into training once the wound is fully healed.
Red Head Italian is well at Overbrook Farm and continues to enjoy her time off for healing and hopefully resume training early this summer.
Our Vino Rosso / Lisa Limon filly continues to train well, and we are looking forward to her arrival in New Jersey early in May.
Our Connect filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky.

Hi All,
Some important dates to announce as we move closer to the opening of Monmouth Park on Saturday May 11th.
First is Saturday June 15th which will be our initial “Owner for A Day” event for 2024. Calming Sea is entered in Race 6 at Gulfstream Park on Saturday April 6th (see details below for the race and her most recent maintenance breeze). I have included Scott’s pre-race analysis below and have attached the pp’s above.
CALMING SEA is entered to run next Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Race 6, an 8 ½ furlong turf route for non-winners of two races lifetime. Post Time is 3:40 PM, and Calming Sea drew the #4 Post Position in a short field of seven runners with Paco Lopez aboard to give her Kenwood debut another go! She has come out of her freak-incident in the paddock two weeks ago doing well and hasn’t missed a beat; including a nice 4-furlong breeze this past Monday. While this is a step up in class from the Clm16000 race that claimed her out of, she has shown enough for trainer Kelly Breen and his team to warrant the entry. She was competitive at this level back on New Years Day, getting nailed at the wire by a wall of horses after leading the entire way, in a thrilling finish. We couldn’t pass up this turf entry with a short field. There is some other early speed entered that she will have to contend with, but she is inside of that and with a clean trip, she should get the shortest run around the track. With a couple closers to the outside that have run well at this level already, Calming Sea will need to run a big one, but she fits and should have a say in the outcome of this race.
Calming Sea is entered to run on April 6, 2024, at GULFSTREAM PARK.

Butterfly Queen gave a good effort in her Kenwood debut at Gulfstream Park on March 15th. Paco Lopez sat a perfect ground saving trip until the 1/8th pole, where she was cut off along the rail costing her a chance for victory. However, she was very game and regrouped to just get nosed out for 2nd place, settling for a hard earned third. We are encouraged by this effort and are looking forward to her next entry later this month. She had an easy maintenance breeze on Sunday shown below.

Outlaw Country ran another good race for our ARC23 Group on Saturday March 24th at Gulfstream Park. Scott’s post- race comments are below.
OUTLAW COUNTRY looked phenomenal pre-race in the paddock and on track, and ran his typical race today coming from off the pace, to finish a strong 2nd. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to catch the ML and Post Time Favorite, #8-Hope For Him, who went gate-to-wire in impressive fashion. Johnny V stalked that early speed along with the 3rd Place Finisher, #2-Souper Success, and Outlaw Country was grinding and still running late to create more separation from the rest of the field, but the winner was just too good, start to finish. OC came out of the race in good order so far, and we’ll finalize plans for his next couple months in the coming weeks. OC has now collected 1st or 2nd place purse money in 7 of 8 races for ARC23 in the Kenwood silks, and hasn’t missed a beat since claiming him for just $16,000! He didn’t quite get back into the Winner’s Circle today, but his future continues to look bright, and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks through for his first win of 2024!
Miti Fast Flower had her first timed work for Trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National on Saturday. Scott’s comments are below.
MITI FAST FLOWER had another strong week of training, culminating in a nice 3-furlong breeze this morning, stopping the clock in 37.2 seconds for her first breeze towards a 3YO campaign! Mark Salvaggio was very happy with how she went about the workout, and she has come out of things well so far. These next few weeks will be key for starting to build back her speed, and we are currently targeting her next breeze the week of April 8th. She’ll gallop 1-2 miles over the next week, as we also continue to build back her endurance and stamina as well, and we are excited to have her back on the official “work tab”! Wind Ninety Nine had a nice breeze on March 25 (see below) and is ready for his Kenwood debut. We are targeting a dirt race for him at Gulfstream on April 13th with entries taken this Saturday. Details to follow.
Wind Ninety Nine (6-Year-Old Gelding)
Date: March 25, 2024
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 49:95 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 11/23

Cali Heat is recovering from a deep cut that he sustained in his stall a couple of weeks ago and we are looking forward to getting him back into training once the wound is fully healed.
Red Head Italian is well at Overbrook Farm following a setback due to an injury while training at Overbrook Farm. She will need some time off for healing and hopefully resume training early this summer.
Our Vino Rosso / Lisa Limon filly continues to train well, and we are looking forward to her arrival in New Jersey early in May.
Our Connect filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky.
Stable Notes - March 9, 2024
Hi All,
A big welcome to Wind Ninety Nine a six year old gelding by Super Ninety Nine (see screenshot attached above from the Kenwood Website) who is know the third horse for our ARC24 group. He was claimed by us on Saturday February 24th out of the ninth race at Gulfstream Park. He has settled in well with Trainer Kelly Breen at Palm Meadows and we will be looking for a race for him near the end of the month.
Cali Heat is entered in Race 5 tomorrow Sunday March 10th at Gulfstream Park after multiple races at Penn national were not carded. He will make the trip to Maryland for this race going 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt with a field of seven.. We are hoping that today’s rain clears out quickly to provide a fast track tomorrow to take advantage of his early speed. He is currently the third pick at 4/1 and the PP’s for the race are attached above with Scott’s prerace comments below. Good luck to all Group 93 Members.
It hasn’t been easy getting CALI HEAT’S next race to go, and after Penn National dropped his potential race from their Overnights, we turned to Laurel Park and a race restricted to 3YO’s that was initially listed for this Friday. After carrying over Friday and then Saturday due to only five entries, the third time was a charm, as the race was carded for this upcoming Sunday, March 10th, at Laurel Park! The Equibase Early Entry is below; Post Time is around 2:30 PM and Cali Heat gets regular rider Angel Rodriguez in the 5.5 Furlong dirt sprint, breaking from Post Position #5, in the short field of seven runners. He has been doing well at Penn National with Trainer Mark Salvaggio, primarily galloping, but Mark did give him an easy 4F maintenance breeze at the end of last week. He gets a slight cutback in distance from his last two starts for this race, which hopefully helps with his early speed, and try to go gate to wire and get back to the Winner’s Circle.
Butterfly Queen and Calming Sea have been entered in back to back races next Friday March 15th at Gulfstream Park in races 6 and 7. See Scott’s early comments below:
Exciting news to share as both BUTTERFLY QUEEN and CALMING SEA are officially entered to run for ARC24 in the Kenwood silks next Friday, March 15th in back-to-back races! Paco Lopez takes the mount in both races breaking from the #2 Post Position, and Butterfly Queen will kick things off in Race 6 against a field of six other runners in a Mdn $25,000 turf route, going 7 ½ furlongs over two turns. It’s a short trip to the first turn in these awkward distance turf races at Gulfstream, so the inside Post Position should help with positioning for saving ground early. She got stuck wide around both turns last out, getting forced very wide turning for home, even though she was still making up ground on the leaders late. Hopefully with a better trip, we can get Butterfly Queen into the Winner’s Circle for the first time and kickoff ARC24 with a win! Next up, Calming Sea and Paco team up again in Race 7 for an 8 ½ furlong route on the synthetic Tapeta course, right back at the Clm16000 NW2L level that we claimed her from. They will break from the #2 Post Position against another short field of just six other runners, and hopefully a ground-saving trip can get her back into the Winner’s Circle, after a wide trip last out did her no favors either. She was DQ’d from the win at this same level and distance two races back and is coming off a pair of lifetime high speed figures in her last two races. Hopefully, a little step forward with Kelly and Paco can prove successful for the Kenwood Double to get ARC24 started in winning fashion! I have attached the early PP’s above for your own handicapping, and we’ll follow up next week leading into the race!
Outlaw Country ran another good race for our ARC23 Group on Saturday March 24th at Gulfstream Park. Scott’s post- race comments are below:
OUTLAW COUNTRY ran a big race today, putting away the early speed at the 1/8th Pole after sitting just off the pace, before getting passed by a closer late, to settle for another 2nd place finish. It was another strong effort from OC, but unfortunately, he just didn’t have enough in the tank late after 21.4 and 44.1 opening fractions, to hold off the eventual winner who closed quickly into the early speed. He has come out of the race in good order. We have this same Starter Allowance that comes back at the end of March that we’ll target for now, but we remain hopeful for a possible turf start in the Overnights. We will likely give him a brief R&R after his next race, to make sure he gets some well-deserved time off before the Monmouth Summer meet gets rolling in May. Regardless, we are excited for his future and looking forward to getting him back on the turf.
Miti Fast Flower has been galloping in the mornings for Trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National and we should be seeing her on the work tab shortly.
Red Head Italian is well at Overbrook farm and we are targeting a race at Monmouth Park on May 18th for her.
Our Vino Rosso / Lisa Limon filly continues to train well. Longtime Kenwood Group Member Cyn L was able to travel to Manuden Farm in Ocala to see her and a former Kenwood runner Bobby Blue Eyes who was a part of Group 28 back in 2016. Cyn L has supported him since his retirement from racing seven years ago. We thank her for giving him a happy second career. Her comments are below:
“Since Kenwood Racing was a former owner of Bobby Blue Eyes, I am forwarding these photos from his current job. He is helping Marco Antonio Hernandez with the training of "green" horses.” CYN L
Our yearling Connect filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky.
Stable Notes February 24, 2024
Hi All,
A big welcome to Butterfly Queen - a 3 year old Maiden filly by Omaha Beach, Calming Sea - a 4 year old filly by Mendelssohn and Wind Ninety Nine - a 6 year old gelding by Super Ninety Nine, who are the first three horses to join the Kenwood Stable in 2024! After multiple claim attempts where we lost out on the shake, we were successful in winning two shakes last Friday and one today, and have added two, nice young fillies and s productive 6YO gelding running on the wrong surface to kick off Group 95 and our flagship ARC24 program! We are looking forward to Friday March 15th when we could see all them make their Kenwood Racing debuts!
Outlaw Country is entered later today, Saturday February 24, in Race 8 at Gulfstream Park (see details below and pp’s attached above). Looking to get our first win of 2024 Paco Lopez will ride leaving from post 7 in an eight horse field. At 9/5 he is the early favorite and with a good trip should be very tough in this spot (see Scott’s pre- race comments below). Good luck to all Group 90 ARC23 members and Trainer - Partner Kelly Breen.
OUTLAW COUNTRY is entered right back in the same Starter Allowance Optional Claiming sprint on the synthetic track, this Saturday, February 24th at Gulfstream Park! Paco Lopez is back aboard and they drew the #7 slot in a field of eight runners for Race 8on the card; Post Time is expected around 3:35 PM. Outlaw Country’s best races have been from an outside post position, which suits his off-the-pace running style better than an inside post, and should benefit him in this spot. The winner from his last race, No Deliberation, will be the one to beat again in this spot as he’s 6 for 6 over the GP synthetic track, and 6 of 7 lifetime at this 5.5 furlong distance. OC was inside of No Deliberation that day and experienced a little trouble at the break from that inside post position, which may have been the difference since No Deliberation had the first jump turning for home, and OC just couldn’t catch him even though he was closing late. It should also be noted that Outlaw Country handed No Deliberation his only loss at this distance when he beat him at Monmouth Park the race before we claimed him. There also looks to be quite a bit of early speed which should allow for an honest pace up front for OC to close into.
Cali Heat was entered for a race on February 29th at Penn National but there were not enough horses named and the race did not get carded. Trainer Mark Salvaggio said he is ready to race, and we are looking for a slot for him with a possible race at Laurel Park on Friday March 8th. We will keep you up to date once entries are taken on March 2nd.
Miti Fast Flower has joined Cali Heat at Penn National and has resumed race training. If all continues to go well, she should be ready to race again in late March or early April. We look forward to getting her back in action.
Red Head Italian is well at Overbrook Farm with Trainer Rory Huston. With the weather starting to cooperate she should begin training shortly once the Overbrook track is ready for a targeted race at Monmouth Park on May 18th.
Our Vino Rosso / Lisa Limon filly continues to train well and mature at Manuden Farm in Ocala.
The Connect filly is also well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky.
Stable Notes January 20, 2024
Hi All,
With the holidays behind us we are excited to unveil our ARC24 program. This is our Active Racing Club for 2024 where we will attempt to acquire multiple horses for the Group through claims or private sales beginning in late January at Gulfstream Park and running through the end of the Monmouth Park meet in September. We will have a presentation for this offering on Tuesday January 23rd at 8 p.m. Eastern to explain the Buy in process and Group procedures which will be open to all who want to attend. The purpose of the Group is to provide a lot of racing action throughout 2024 and beyond at multiple venues along the east coast but primarily based at Gulfstream Park during the Championship Meet and Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands during the entire NJ racing season.
Last year our ARC23 group had 22 races among the six horses that were in the Group with a 7-4-2 running line good for a 32% win rate and nearly 60% in the money. The Group is still active into this year as Outlaw Country continues to put up nice numbers while riding for the Kenwood Stable with 3 wins and a 2nd from 5 starts. If you want action and some nice chances to get your picture taken in the Winner’s Circle you need to check out this program for 2024. If you would like to attend the presentation, please let us know by noon on Tuesday and we will send you the invitation.
Outlaw Country has been entered in Race 3 at Gulfstream Park on Friday January 26th. This will be the first Kenwood race of the year and the beginning of the Kenwood Racing Handicap contest for 2024. The prizes will be a trophy (see picture of the 2023 trophy attached above) and $1000 credit towards any Group purchase to the Winner, $250 credit for 2nd place and $100 credit for the 3rd place finisher. This contest is open to all Current and Former Kenwood Group Members and notice will be sent to you early this week for sign up and entry.
Scott’s comments for the upcoming race are below. Good luck to all our ARC 23 members and Trainer – Partner Kelly Breen.
It’s been a slow couple weeks out of OUTLAW COUNTRY’S win to close out 2023, but he is right back in the entries for next Friday, January 26th, in Race 3 at Gulfstream Park! The same level Starter Allowance he won at last out, Paco Lopez is back aboard for the 5.5 furlong sprint on the Tapeta track with a field of seven runners. Two runners exit the same race as Outlaw Country, including the 3rd Place finisher Pico d’Oro, who was right there at the wire in the Win Photo last out. There is not a lot of early speed on paper in this race, and Paco will likely need to sit a closer trip that he did last out when he let the fast pace get away early, only to catch them at the wire. Paco is a perfect 3 for 3 riding Outlaw Country, and he knows the horse as well as anyone. If you remember back to OC’s first race in the Kenwood Silks, Paco kept him close to the early pace from the #9 Post Position, so we know Outlaw Country is capable of early speed and stalking the pace, which is the likely scenario with limited speed and the inside post position. We’ll be in touch next week leading into the race, and hoping we can start 2024 like we ended 2023 – with a win! The Equibase Early Entry Notification is below, and I have attached the early Past Performances for your handicapping!
Cali Heat was entered for a race on January 26th as well, but the race was not carded and was carried over for Wednesday January 31st giving him an opportunity for another breeze prior to the race as the weather has begun to clear up in the Northeast. We will keep you posted as to the status of the entry once available.
Red Head Italian and Miti Fast Flower are both well at Overbrook Farm with Rory Huston. We are planning a visit on Saturday February 3rd weather permitting for all who are interested.
U Kant Whip It is enjoying his new career as a family riding horse in Rhode Island. See the picture of him romping in the snow yesterday attached above. Finding our retired horses good homes is one of our prime missions.
Lisa Limon was sold on January 9th at Keeneland bringing $65K to our Lisa Limon Broodmare Group. While we will miss her, we are happy to still have two of her offspring as part of the Group. Her Vino Rosso filly is in training towards her racing career with the de Meric’s at Manuden Farm in Ocala. Her Connect filly continues to mature at Hidden Brook farm in Kentucky.
Weekly Update 11/24/23
Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to all Kenwood Partners, Group Members past and present and Friends of Kenwood. We have a lot to report including a big race later this afternoon at Tampa Bay Downs.
Boston Princess was an easy winner at Gulfstream Park last Saturday (see details below) under rider Paco Lopez. Here is Scott’s summary of the race:
What an exciting win for BOSTON PRINCESS, as she got a masterful ride by Paco Lopez from off the pace to win comfortably for her second win in the Kenwood silks for ARC23! BP broke alertly and showed her early speed before Paco pulled her back off the early pace and settled in behind the speed duel on the front end. As others started closing in on the leaders at the 3/8ths pole, Paco stayed chilly on Boston Princess and waited for a lane to open along the rail. By the Quarter Pole, the rail opened, and Paco was in perfect position to sneak through and get the first jump on the leaders turning for home. Boston Princess quickly opened up on the leaders, before some of the other closers started running, but it was too little, too late with Boston Princess ahead by 3+ lengths at the wire. She was claimed from us out of this race, so it was extra special to get the nice win on her way out. We’ll wish her well with her new connections.
Outlaw Country is entered today at Tampa Bay Downs in an Allowance Optional Claiming Race sprinting five furlongs on the beautiful Tampa turf course (see pp’s attached above and details below). He will not run for a tag and will be eligible for the Florida Bred Purse Bonus. Carol Cedeno a six-time Delaware Park Riding Champion will return to her roots in Tampa to ride today (see article below). There is a full field of ten with some tough veterans including 2019 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Champion Storm the Court. Currently at 4-1 he will need a clean break and a good trip to come out on top in this spot. Good luck to ARC23 members and Trainer-Partner Kelly Breen.

OLDSMAR, FL—Mid-Atlantic journeywoman Carol Cedeno had mixed feelings when trainer Kerri Raven encouraged her to join the Tampa Bay Downs jockey colony this season.
“She’s always been telling me to come to Tampa. That I would do well,” said Cedeno, a six-time riding champion at Delaware Park who last competed here on a regular basis during the 2013-2014 meet. “And my agent [Mark Mace] told me almost every day I had to come here. But I was a little worried because I have to support my kids [a 14-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son] and I know how tough Tampa is.” After receiving assurances from other trainers such as McLean Robertson, Juan Arriagada and Chelsey Moysey that she is welcome in their barns, Cedeno decided to take flight, leaving her offspring in good hands with her mother and sister so they could remain with their schoolmates. Since arriving at her old stomping grounds and getting a feel for the place, Cedeno has bolstered the confidence that has enabled her to ride 1,256 career winners. “Really, I like everything about being here,” Cedeno said. Cedeno is named to ride five horses on Wednesday’s nine-race Opening Day card, which begins at 12:38 p.m. EST. The program, which includes six races on the main track and three on the turf course, has attracted 101 entrants, including 44 Florida-breds. “Some of the jockeys I knew when I was here before—Antonio Gallardo, Jose Ferrer, Willie Martinez—have received me very well, and everybody here is very friendly. “The competition is going to be tough. There are a lot of excellent jockeys here and I didn’t expect to get named on five horses,” Cedeno said. “So I’ve got more confidence that things are going to be okay. I don’t expect to be leading jockey, but I’m going to work hard in the mornings like I always do and try my best.”00 Allowance Sprint Highlight's Wednesday Card, FL-Mid-Atlantic journeywoman Carol Cedeno had mixed feelings when trainer Kerri Raven encouraged her to join the Tampa Bay Downs jockey colony this season. Without a Net is entered for a bid to break her Maiden at Penn National on Thursday November 30th at Penn National (see pp’s above and details below). Veteran jockey Jomar Torres will ride for Trainer Mark Salvaggio going five furlongs on the main track in a full field of ten with two also eligibles. She will be wearing blinkers for the first time and is currently the 2-1 morning line favorite. She has been training well and with a good trip should have a very good chance to make the Winner’s Circle. Good luck to all Group 84 members.
Cali Heat had a nice maintenance breeze last Friday morning at Penn National (see below) following his win on November 3rd. Trainer Mark Salvaggio has been very happy with Cali Heat, and he has been entered in an Allowance race for two-year olds at Penn National on Friday December 1st in the first race (see details below). Angel Rodriguez will ride to try to make it back-to-back wins for Group 93 and Trainer Mark Salvaggio in this small field of six horses.
Red Head Italian and Miti Fast Flower are both well at Overbrook Farm wit Rory Huston.
Lisa Limon has been assigned Hip #814 for the Keeneland January Sale and will go through the sales ring on Tuesday January 9th.
Her Connect filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm.
Her Vino Rosso filly has continued to progress while training at Manuden Farm.
Stable Update Week of 11/13
Hi All,
Some good news since last update.
Cali Heat broke his maiden at Penn National on Friday November 3rd (see Winner’s Circle Picture attached above). Congratulations to trainer Mark Salvaggio and all Group 93 Members. Here are Scott’s post- race comments:
It was an exciting maiden breaking WIN tonight for CALI HEAT, taking control after the opening quarter mile and opening-up to win by 6+ lengths in the end; with 12+ lengths back to 3rd Place and the rest of the field! This was considerable class relief from his first two starts, but he proved a racehorse tonight and is a 2YO winner! Cali Heat was NOT claimed from us out of this race and has cooled out well so far back at Mark’s barn. It’s not easy to win at any level in this game, especially as a 2YO, so it’s nice to see Cali Heat do it in impressive fashion.
We are looking at a couple of possibilities for his next race near the end of the month and will keep everyone posted when he is entered.
Boston Princess is entered on Saturday November 18th in Race 12 at Gulfstream Park (see details below and pp’s attached above) going one mile and seventy yards on the synthetic Tapeta track. She gets Paco Lopez in the irons in a field of ten leaving from post 7. She won over this surface back in February and has been training very well since arriving in Florida early this month. Good luck to all Group 90 ARC23 members.
Outlaw Country is well at Palm Meadows and is raring to go after his big win last month at the Meadowlands (see breeze info below). He was entered for a race this weekend, but it did not get carded. The Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park begins December 1st and we are looking for the right spot for his next entry.
Outlaw Country (3-Year-Old Gelding)

Without a Net is well at Penn National with Trainer Mark Salvaggio and there may be an entry for her before the end of the month. We will update everyone when she is entered for a race.
Red Head Italian and Miti Fast Flower have settled in well at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck while getting some time off from training to grow and mature going into their 3- year- old campaigns (see some pictures attached above taken last weekend by Scott). We are planning to visit them with some of the Group Members on Saturday morning.
Ellie’s a Riot was sold as a Broodmare prospect in the November Fasig- Tipton Sale in Kentucky on Monday and we will be watching how her new career goes in the future.
U Kant Whip It has been retired from racing and was transported to his new home with a family in Cranston Rhode Island to become a riding horse in his second career.
Montauk Summer also has been retired from racing and has found a new home on a family farm in Quakertown Pennsylvania where is will also be a riding horse.
The entire Kenwood Racing Group wish both of them well in their new homes and are pleased that they will have many happy years to come. A huge thank you to longtime Kenwood Racing family member and supporter, Jeanne Vuyosevich from Sunset Meadows Farm, who helped assist with their placements.
Lisa Limon and her Connect foal are well at Hidden Brook Farm. Her Vino Rosso filly has continued to progress while training at Manuden Farm.
Stable Update Week of 10/30
Hi All,
Happy Breeder’s Cup weekend to everyone. We are looking forward to the Viewing party tomorrow in the Turf Club at Monmouth Park where Kenwood Partners, Group Members and friends will take up more than 10% of the available seats. Should be a nice day to enjoy this special event. In addition, we have an exciting entry this evening at Penn National.
Cali Heat is entered tonight in the first race at Penn National (see details below and pp’s attached above). See Scott’s pre-race comments below:
CALI HEAT has settled in nicely and is doing great since switching barns to Mark Salvaggio at Penn National and is ready to go when he kicks off the Friday night card at Penn National in Race 1. It is a 5 ½ f Maiden Claiming sprint, he breaks from the #5 Post Position with top jockey Tyler Conner in the saddle against a field of eight. Post Time is at 6:00 PM. After showing early speed in his first two starts before fading down the stretch, the class relief should be just what he needs, and we’re expecting a big effort from him in this spot. There is some other early speed right to his inside which he should be able to sit a stalking position to with a clean break, and there are two first time starters in the race that have decent work tabs coming into their debuts that could add to the pace. It all starts with a clean break, and Jockey Tyler Conner breezed Cali Heat last week to get familiar with him, and hopefully that pays dividends when the gates open. Mark couldn’t be happier with him coming into the race, and good luck to Kenwood Partners, Group 93 and trainer Mark Salvaggio.
Without a Net was a sharp second on Wednesday night at Penn Nation for Group 84. See Scott's post race comments below:
What an exciting race as WITHOUT A NET showed gate speed again, took control right from the start and through the first 5 furlongs, before she was rundown by a longshot to finish a well clear 2nd in the 6f dirt sprint. With the late scratch of the inside #1 horse, jockey Julio Hernandez was able to get to the lead relatively easily on the inside, albeit pressured the whole way. Without A Net put away the early pressure at the ¼ - pole and appeared to be pulling away at the top of the stretch but was beaten late by the deepest closer of the group who came flying late to win. Without A Net was over three lengths in front of 3rd Place, with another 3-4 lengths back to the rest of the field. Trainer Mark Salvaggio said after the race that he thinks she probably needed that race off the 6+ week break and being lightly raced, but she has come out the race in good order so far and looks to be improving every race right now. There are a couple options for her to come right back at this same level at the middle or end of the month, and we’ll let her tell us which one is best with how she comes out of the race and gets back to the track. I have attached the Equibase Race Chart for your review.
Boston Princess is well at Palm Meadows in Florida following her last race at Laurel Park on Sunday. There is a possible race for her at Gulfstream Park towards the middle of the month.
Outlaw Country also well at Palm Meadows as he gets some well-deserved time off before preparing for the Gulfstream Park Championship Meet which begins in December.
Red Head Italian and Miti Fast Flower have settled in well at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck while getting some time off from training to grow and mature going into their 3- year- old campaigns. and we will be scheduling a visit to see them in the near future.
Ellie’s a Riot is entered in the November Fasig- Tipton Sale in Kentucky and will go through the ring as Hip #2310 on Monday November 13th. She has arrived at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky and is looking great. See attached picture above and her catalog page as well.
U Kant Whip It and Montauk Summer are both well as we continue to find new homes for them for second careers.
Lisa Limon and her Connect foal are well at Hidden Brook Farm (see report from Sergio below). Her Vino Rosso filly has continued to progress while training at Manuden Farm.
