Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for January 9, 2020

new entry

Group #56 was released to Triple Crown members yesterday, thanks for the great response, all co-owners will receive the details on the lowest priced group of the year this weekend.

  • Race went for Solar, he runs Sunday at Gulfstream Park. The usual large, competitive field, but off his last he should run really well in here.
  • Race for Night of Idiots did not go for the 4th straight entry day, was brought back for a 5th time, enter tomorrow (Friday) for next Thursday. They’ve had 4 horses each time, need a couple more to get it to go.
  • Shake It Up Baby will be entered tomorrow at Gulfstream Park for his race next week also.
  • New Found Treasure runs tomorrow at Penn National, a full field and tough for the level, but off her impressive win last time out, she certainly has a shot here.
  • Bullion good out of a slow, easy work at The Fairgrounds. He’s being pointed for a race at Oaklawn Park at the end of this month for his next start.
  • No Good Deed had another 4 furlong work as she approaches her debut, possibly by the end of this month.
  • Rapstorerocks doing well now, going to work him and if he’s ok with no more mucus, look for a spot to enter him in towards the end of the month,

  • Race for Night of Idiots enter tomorrow for Saturday. She went really fast and really well in her latest work. She’s ready!
  • New Found Treasure runs Friday at Penn National, a full field and tough for the level, but off her impressive win last time out she certainly has a shot here.

Workout and photos

Greetings to all, an exciting new year is underway.  Stay tuned for our first new group of 2020, released tomorrow to our Triple Crown Club members and to all other co-owners end of the week. It will be a special horse and the lowest priced group (by far!) we will offer this year, our gift to our loyal owners to start off the new decade in style!

  • Here’s a nice photo of Giuliana Vee heading out for training this morning. She’s gradually improving with each start and has a decent shot to win races for us at Penn this winter.

  • Bullion had a slow, easy work yesterday at The Fairgrounds. He’s being pointed for a race at Oaklawn Park at the end of this month for his next start.
  • Race for Night of Idiots did not go Sunday at Golden Gate but was brought back again, enter Wednesday for Saturday. Trainer Jonathan Wong worked her since she’s ready to run and no race for her yet, she went really fast and really well (below). She’s ready!
  • New Found Treasure gets in Friday at Penn National, a full field and tough for the level, but off her impressive win last time out she certainly has a shot here.
  • Rapstorerocks worked this weekend and came back coughing. We scoped him and found he still has a lot of mucus in his airway. We had treated him for this after his last race but the anti-biotics we used apparently didn’t clear it up. Our vet gave him a different course of medication that hopefully will take care of it. This is NOT a major problem, it’s like the millions of people across the country who are suffering with various viruses right now. You wouldn’t do well running a race with a cold or flu, but it wouldn’t have any effect on your ability to run once you feel better. Got it?!!

We are pleased to announce our first group of the year will be announced next week! In honor of a new decade, this will be  a special group at a very special price; our lowest priced group of the new year and probably for years to come for one very nice two year old. Will go out to Triple Crown members first, then all other current co-owners shortly thereafter, and finally we will keep a share open for a lucky new owner. All first come, first served. Given the horse and the pricing we expect this group will sell out very quickly, so keep an eye out for the emails.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for December 31, 2019

December 31, 2019 at 8:45 pm • By Robb Levinsky

New works, upcoming race, and a very happy new year!

A very safe, happy and healthy New Year to everyone in the Kenwood Racing family from all of us. We are so grateful for your support year after year. We do this for the love of the horses, the game, and for you…..

A look at the latest possible race dates for all your horses here. Note we have five horses scheduled for races in the first part of January from coast to coast.

  • Here’s a video of Shake It Up Baby at Palm Meadows, courtesy of trainer Kelly Breen, galloping nicely and very easily with jockey Paco Lopez standing up on him. He had an easy breeze today, just getting him fit for his scheduled race in a couple of weeks. The horse is doing excellent.

  • Solar had an easy maintenance work this morning at Palm Meadows. There’s a race for him in early January and he’ll be ready for it.
  • Night of Idiots had a sizzling fast work this week to sharpen her for her race, enter Thursday for Sunday at Golden Gate Fields. If the race goes she’ll be our first starter of the new decade.

Folks, you’ve heard-read many comments before from us about how little workout times actually mean; the works below offer a textbook example. Shake It Up Baby and Solar worked slow, Night of Idiots worked super-fast. All were good works, just what the trainer wanted given where they are in their training-racing cycles and what we were looking to accomplish. The riders got off each of the horses and said they went easily and felt great, that’s what we are looking for. We could easily have had any of them work faster or slower; even a fast workout is slower than the speed a horse runs at in a race. Don’t let anyone mislead you. It’s not about the time, it’s about how the horse does it. A good ‘teachable moment’ to end the year.

  • Giuliana Vee good out of her game 2nd at Penn National, in a clearly improved effort to end the year on a nice note. She’s gradually improving with each start and has a decent shot to win races for us at Penn this winter.
  • Bullion good out of his return last week at the Fairgrounds. Tried hard, needed the race obviously after a lengthy layoff, showed plenty of speed against a super tough field. We got this race under his belt exactly as planned to have him ready for the Oaklawn Park meet with some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels. It’s been a journey with this horse, all minor stuff but a lot more time off than racing. With a little luck our patience is about to be rewarded.
  • No Good Deed doing very well after her first half mile work at Gulfstream Park. “She didn’t go fast, it was her first half mile, but she finished up very strong, galloped out quick. We’ll ask her for a little more speed next time and then go to the gate with her. I’m very happy with how she’s doing”, trainer Ron Spatz.
  • New Found Treasure excellent out of her going away win by 8+ lengths at Penn National. There’s a race for her in early January where she should be tough to beat again.
  • Magic Musketier doing fine.
  • Rapstorerocks doing fine, there’s a race for him at Gulfstream Park in early January also.
  • Life On the Edge at the farm in Ocala and couldn’t look or be doing better.
  • Our beautiful yearling out of Exchanging Fire in training at T-Square stud in Ocala and doing super. We expect him to be a precocious two year old next year.
  • Lisa Limon excellent at the farm in Kentucky, looking forward to a nice healthy baby in February. She will be bred to world-class racehorse Palace Malice (by Curlin) in 2020, one of the leading first-crop sires this year with 19 individual winners including Structor, a Breeder’s Cup winning two year old on the Triple Crown trail!

Mark your calendars for a Kenwood dinner meeting January 31st near Monmouth Park with some exciting news on plans for the New Year!

Nice improvement

  • Giuliana Vee broke well with the addition of blinkers, battled for the lead with the eventual winner who drew away from her in the stretch, but hung on gamely for 2nd ahead of a wall of horses in a clearly improved effort in race 4 this evening at Penn National to end the year on a nice note. Here's a great photo of Giuliana Vee being saddled by Mark Salvaggio, courtesy of co-owner Mike Perullo.

  • No Good Deed doing very well at Gulfstream Park. She had her first half mile work today.

Solid return

  • Bullion made his long awaited return at the Fair Grounds today and finished 5th after battling for the lead early with the eventual winner in a very fast early pace. Tried hard, needed the race obviously after a lengthy layoff, showed plenty of speed against a super tough field. We got this race under his belt exactly as planned to have him ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins next month with some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels. It’s been a journey with this horse, all minor stuff but a lot more time off than racing. With a little luck our patience is about to be rewarded. Assuming he comes out well this race should set him up perfectly for Oaklawn.
  • Giuliana Vee runs tomorrow in a full 10 horse field with 2 extras but gets a good post and rider, adds blinkers for this, and we are hoping for her to take a step forward to end the year on a good note.

  • Shake It Up Baby worked really well, we are pointing him for one of a couple of races in January at Gulfstream Park.

  • Solar an easy maintenance work since he didn’t get to run this week when races taken off the grass, he’s ready for anything that comes up, doing excellent.

  • Rapstorerocks an easy gallop, doing fine, looking for race for him in early January also.

  • Bullion makes his long awaited return Dec. 26th at the Fair Grounds, exactly as planned to have him ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins next month with some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for December 23, 2019

December 24, 2019 at 9:12 am • By Robb Levinsky

We celebrate our 10th win of 2019 and look forward to a couple more races this week and then on to a very special new year in 2020!

  • No Good Deed photo after training at Gulfstream Park with Ron Spatz’s assistant trainer Howard. She’s really developed beautifully, looks as good as she’s been feeling recently. We are eagerly awaiting her debut.

No Good Deed with assistant trainer Howard after morning training at Gulfstream Park on December 22, 2019. Photo courtesy of Ron Spatz.

  • Life on the Edge at the farm in Ocala, couldn’t look or be doing better.
  • Bullion makes his long awaited return Dec. 26th at the Fair Grounds, exactly as planned to have him ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins next month with some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels. It’s been a journey with this horse, all minor stuff but a lot more time off than racing. With a little luck our patience is about to be rewarded. Looking for a good return effort against a very tough field, he’ll certainly need the race but training great. Whatever he does here should set him  up well for Oaklawn.
  • Giuliana Vee fine out of her race at Penn National, so good in fact that trainer Mark Salvaggio entered her for a race this week at Penn on short rest and the race went. She runs Dec. 27th in a full 10 horse field with 2 extras but gets a good post and rider, adds blinkers for this, and we are hoping for her to take a step forward to end the year on a good note.
  • New Found Treasure excellent out of her going away win by 8+ lengths at Pann National. Now that she’s shown that while primarily a turf horse she can win on dirt as well, we have more options. Looking forward to a nice winter with her at Penn off this one. Congratulations to group #54, our partner Ralph Pastore and trainer/partner Mark Salvaggio on a very nice win.
  • Solar doing really well and ready to run back as soon as we find a race for him, there’s a race in the book in mid-January at Gulfstream  Park, maybe an extra will come up before that.
  • Magic Musketier doing fine.
  • Shake It Up Baby good out of another very nice work in company at Palm Meadows and is approaching his return. There’s a race for him in early January we are pointing for.
  • Night of Idiots good out of her race and will run back at Golden Gate Fields in January. There’s a race we are pointing for on January 5th which should be a good spot.
  • Rapstorerocks good out of his race, looking at a spot for him in early January at Gulfstream Park.
  • Our beautiful yearling out of Exchanging Fire in training at T-Square stud in Ocala and doing super. We expect him to be a precocious two year old next year.
  • Lisa Limon excellent at the farm in Kentucky, looking forward to a nice healthy baby in February. A look at the latest possible race dates for all your horses here and lots of news and results as we celebrate our 10th win of 2019 and look forward to 2020!

  • Life On the Edge has settled in nicely at Davidson farm in Ocala for a brief bit of R&R to get her ready for her three year old season next year. She had 7 starts and 2 impressive wins as a two year old, far more than 90% of all horses accomplish at two. She should return to Palm Meadows in about 60 days. Take a look at the attached photos, a more beautiful filly would be hard to find. Just one look and you can see she’s loving her vacation time on a beautiful farm!

  • Solar was scratched today at Gulfstream Park when the races were taken off the turf. Trainer Kelly Breen thinks he’s running too well on the turf to risk knocking him out of form by running on dirt (in his lone career dirt start he was beaten almost 10 lengths and beat one horse to the wire). He’s doing really well and ready to run back as soon as we find another race for him, there’s a race in the book in mid-January, maybe an extra will come up before that.
  • Giuliana Vee fine out of her race, so good in fact that trainer Mark Salvaggio entered her today for an extra race next week at Penn on short rest and the race went. She runs Dec. 27th in a full 10 horse field with 2 extras but gets a good post and rider, adds blinkers for this, and we are hoping for her to take a step forward to end the year on a good note.
  • New Found Treasure excellent out of her going away win by 8+ lengths at Penn National. Now that she’s shown that while primarily a turf horse she can win on dirt as well, we have more options.
