Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for November 16, 2019

  • Magic Musketier had absolutely no excuse when 7th of 8 horses today at Del Mar. Seems simply overmatched on this circuit.
  • Night of Idiots good and should be ready to run back around the end of the month, excellent work today at Golden Gate Fields.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for November 13, 2019

November 14, 2019 at 8:21 am • By Robb Levinsky
  • Magic Musketier runs Saturday at Del Mar, been training really well and expecting a return to form after several sub-par races.
  • Bullion is at the Fair Grounds and back on the work tab, a good sign and nice to see! Trainer Steve Asmussen’s plan is to get a race or two into him in Louisiana and hopefully have him sharp and ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins in January. Oaklawn has some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels and Steve feels he’ll be a really good fit there and have a shot to earn some serious purse money at that meet.
  • More Ice ready to run at Del Mar next week.
  • Solar good out of his race and shipped to Palm Meadows in Florida this afternoon, where he should be competitive in the right spots this winter.
  • Giuliana Vee and New Found Treasure good out of their races and at Penn National.
  • Rapstorerocks pointing for one more grass in New York and then ships to Gulfstream Park.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake doing well and may run back next week at Penn National
  • Life On the Edge training at Palm Meadows and will hopefully be ready to run at Gulfstream Park in a few weeks. One or two more starts and then a little time at the farm for some well-deserved R&R
  • Night of Idiots good and should be ready to run back around the end of the month at Golden Gate Fields.
  • Shake It Up Baby training at Palm Meadows with Kelly Breen. We hope to have him ready to run at Gulfstream Park around the end of the year.
  • Lisa Limon excellent at Hidden Brook farm in Kentucky, looking forward to her Liam’s Map foal in February.
  • Our yearling by Exchanging Fire in training at T-Square Stud in Ocala and doing super.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for November 11, 2019

November 12, 2019 at 9:09 am • By Robb Levinsky

A lot of action today at the races, here’s all the news plus works, videos and more..

  • First up was Giuliana Vee at Laurel Park, who sat a good trip up close early and plain didn’t fire, finishing a dull 6th under top rider Trevor McCarthy. We had expected a much better effort here and were very disappointed. She’ll ship to Penn National now (where she was 4th in her debut against much better runners) and hope this was just an off race.
  • Next up at Laurel Park, New Found Treasure went off at 15 to 1 in a tough race for the level, her first try on dirt, and ran hard and well, rallying from well back despite being in tight quarters most of the way to get 3rd. Not a bad effort considering. Off this should be able to win at Penn National on the dirt this winter.
  • Then at Aqueduct Solar finally got to run in a full field of 12 horses, he got the far outside post #12, a VERY unfavorable draw, tough to overcome, and then broke absolutely flat-footed losing all shot. He tracked well in mid-pack for much of the race but flattened out to finish 8th with an obvious excuse.  He’s a solid runner and will now head to Florida where he should be competitive in the right spots this winter.
  • More Ice and Magic Musketier both good out of excellent works yesterday at Del Mar for their entries coming up for this weekend and next weekend.

Remember all info. on possible upcoming races and current entries may be found here.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for November 8, 2019

November 9, 2019 at 3:22 pm • By Robb Levinsky

Three big entries next Monday at two different tracks and the sale of Lisa Limon Sunday will make for an exciting holiday weekend!

  • Lisa Limon is Hip #1533, selling this Sunday at Keeneland, the sale will be live streamed on the Keeneland website, you can see it here. She shipped in today well from the farm, will be shown all of Saturday and sells early on Sunday. We will update her owners on how she has been received at the sale Saturday evening if possible.

Good news on entries today after several days with races not going. Remember all information on possible upcoming races and current entries may be found here.  Also remember, for help with seating-dining-paddock arrangements for any race please email George@kenwoodracing.com

  • Monday Solar finally gets in at Aqueduct in the race we were looking for. That’s the good news, bad news is it’s a full field of 12 horses plus 4 on the also eligible and he got the far outside post #12. A VERY unfavorable draw, tough to overcome, but he’s training excellent, has a good rider and with a good break and a good trip will be very competitive here for a big purse.
  • Also Monday Giuliana Vee and New Found Treasure both run at Laurel Park. Giuliana Vee stretches out to a mile, bred to like that, hoping for a nice move forward off her decent 4th in her debut. A few races later, New Found Treasure is a good fit in this spot IF she can handle the dirt (run on grass her entire life). Both horses get top riders and fit well in these spots if they fire their best shots.
  • Rapstorerocks good out of his race yesterday, a fine closing 4th at 23 to 1 odds at Aqueduct. Bumped at the start, well back, closed nicely to just miss 3rd by less than ½ length. A big step forward. Many young turf horses need a little time to mature; he went from a 6th at Monmouth Park to a closing 4th in New York, and recalling his troubles the last few weeks  (he’d been sick, fell and got cut and lost training time) this was a very solid effort. Maybe one more grass in NY and then ship to Gulfstream Park.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake tired but good out of her 2nd at Penn National yesterday. She’d been training strongly since arriving at Penn National and we were expecting a huge improvement here off her disappointing Monmouth Park races where she’d been off the board every time, beaten 10++ lengths in her last seven starts. Here she broke a bit flat-footed, sat back early, and made a very decent late to get 2nd money. At this level with luck, she might be able to win a couple of races for us. Another example of how much of a difference class makes.
  • Life On the Edge training at Palm Meadows and will hopefully be ready to run at Gulfstream Park in a few weeks. One or two more starts and then a little time at the farm for some well-deserved R&R
  • Night of Idiots good and should be ready to run back at Golden Gate Fields around the end of the month
  • Shake It Up Baby training at Palm Meadows with Kelly Breen. We hope to have him ready to run at Gulfstream Park around the end of the year.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for November 6, 2019

  • Lisa Limon is Hip #1533, selling this Sunday at Keeneland, the sale will be live streamed on the Keeneland website. You can see it here.  She ships in Friday from the farm, will be shown all of Saturday and sells early on Sunday.
  • No good news on entries today. Solar’s race went, only problem is it had over 30 entries and he didn’t draw in. They did bring back the same race enter tomorrow for Sunday, there will still be 15-18 entries that didn’t get in today and only 12 can run, but hopefully this time he’ll get in. He’s doing excellent.
  • Race for New Found Treasure  at Penn National did not go and did not come back. Nothing in the book for her, we’ll keep looking. She’s doing fine, if she can handle the dirt at all she’ll be real tough when she runs next.
  • Life On the Edge and Night of Idiots both good out of their races, both should be ready to run back around the end of the month.
  • Rapstorerocks runs at Aqueduct tomorrow, if rain takes the race off the turf (a real possibility) we WILL run, although we’d much prefer to run on grass.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake also runs tomorrow at Penn National. She’s been training strongly since arriving at Penn and we are expecting a huge improvement here off her disappointing Monmouth Park races.
  • Shake It Up Baby arrived yesterday at Palm Meadows to continue his training there with Kelly Breen this week from T-Square Stud in Ocala.  We hope to have him ready to run at Gulfstream Park around the end of the year. Looks really good!

  • Magic Musketier doing fine, had a nice work and there’s a good spot for him at Del Mar next week.

Remember all possible upcoming entries may be found here.

  • Giuliana Vee  good and ready to run back as soon as we can find a spot for her. There are races at Penn National next week and the week after if we can’t find anything for her at Aqueduct.
  • No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park, has had some treatments for stiffness and still not moving as well as we’d like, but no obvious problem.
  • More Ice good out of an excellent work at Los Alamitos and should be ready to run at Del Mar, there’s a great race for him in 2 weeks, he’ll work again next week and as long as he comes out of it well will be entered. Ideally we’d like to get another work into him but this race is exactly the right spot for him so he’ll run if he’s doing as well as he is now.
  • Bullion is doing well in Kentucky, training at Ellis Park. Trainer Steve Asmussen (leading trainer in North America this year and the trainer of both of Liam’s Map’s stakes winners, Basin and Wicked Whisper, interestingly) reports he’s been working on building up muscle he lost while on the farm. Says the horse is training well and very sound, no leg or other issues. His plan is to get a race or two into him in Louisiana later this fall and hopefully have him sharp and ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins in January. Oaklawn has some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels and Steve feels he’ll be a really good fit there and have a shot to earn some serious purse money at that meet.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for November 2, 2019

November 3, 2019 at 8:10 pm • By Robb Levinsky

So much news, hard to know where to begin!

We’ll start with an outstanding weekend of racing at Santa Anita with exceptional performances at the Breeders’ Cup. A large group of Kenwood owners & friends attended the National Thoroughbred Owner’s Conference this week, followed by a thrilling Breeders’ Cup in a setting that is truly sublime. If you’ve never been to Santa Anita, you’ve missed out on something very special indeed. Of course everyone was deeply saddened at the loss of Mongolian Groom and our hearts go out to all his connections but nonetheless it was a weekend of racing to remember on many fronts.

Turning to Kenwood runners, we had two races at two tracks and come away with one thrilling win and one hard fought loss. The two races went off, literally, at the same time on two coasts, with Life On the Edge battling hard for the lead in a one mile dirt event at Laurel Park, taking the lead briefly at the top of the stretch before tiring badly to finish a well beaten 7th.  It was a tough allowance race and probably the dirt was not her best surface. Seems to have come out of the race fine, she tried hard and actually ran well.

As Life On the Edge was tiring at Laurel Park, at Golden Gate Fields, Night of Idiots was rallying from dead last after a slow start to run down the entire field from the far outside in the stretch to just get up over the favorite in the final stride, winning by a head in a thrilling photo finish. We felt going in off a good 3rd in her comeback after a layoff last time out she was the horse to beat in this spot and she lived up to her billing with a vary game and hard fought victory today. Kenwood partner Helen Hansel was on hand to celebrate in the winner’s circle with trainer Jonathan Wong, who has done a wonderful, patient training job for us and our partner MyRacehorse.com with this filly. Congratulations to Jonathan and his team and all the co-owners of this horse.

Photos courtesy of Golden Gate Fields.

Also some good news on the entry front to report, with two entries for this coming week.

  • Rapstorerocks finally gets in the entries at Aqueduct Thursday, after the race was carried over 5 times. He’s in an overflow 16 horse field (12 will run), obviously not an easy spot in New York, but he’s been training really well recently and deserves a shot here.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake also finally gets in the entries and also runs this Thursday, at Penn National. She’s been training strongly since arriving at Penn National and we are expecting a huge improvement here off her disappointing Monmouth Park races.

Anyone needing assistance with seating – admissions, etc. please contract George@kenwoodracing.com

  • Solar is doing excellent, there’s a race for him enter this week at Aqueduct or an alternate at Laurel Park the same day
  • New Found Treasure fine at Penn National and will be entered this week for her first race there.
  • Giuliana Vee  good and ready to run back as soon as we can find a spot for her.
  • No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park, had been a little stiff last few days but we did some treatments and she trained excellent today.

No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park on November 1, 2019.

  • More Ice worked really well again today at Los Alamitos and should be ready to run at Del Mar later this month.
  • Shake It Up Baby will ship to Gulfstream Park to continue his training there with Kelly Breen this week from T-Square Stud in Ocala.
  • Magic Musketier doing fine and will look for grass next time.
Oaklawn has some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels and Steve feels he’ll be a really good fit there and have a shot to earn some serious purse money at that meet.
  • Last but certainly not least, impossible to keep up with all the good news with Lisa Limon, she sells a week from Sunday at Keeneland, the sale will be live streamed on the Keeneland website.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 30, 2019

October 31, 2019 at 1:01 pm • By Robb Levinsky

Two entries today and more to come…

  • The turf race at Laurel Park for Life On the Edge did not go today for Saturday but an extra with the condition on the dirt did go, a huge 11 horse field at Laurel Park.  A tough allowance race, one step up the ladder with a larger purse off her last impressive win. Will be a test to see if she can run as well long on dirt as she did on grass.
  • Night of Idiots is ready for her race at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday, the race went with a nice 7 horse field and she’s the horse to beat in this spot.
  • Everything finally good with Rapstorerocks after illness, superficial cuts, etc. detailed previously. Kelly Breen breezed him today at Monmouth Park and he went great. He’ll be entered tomorrow for next weekend on the grass at Aqueduct.
  • Solar is doing excellent and he worked great today also, there’s a race for him Nov. 9th at Aqueduct or an alternate at Laurel Park the same day
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake worked very well at Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio this week. She’s ‘out of jail’ (can run outside of Monmouth where she was claimed) and will be entered shortly. She’s training really well.
  • New Found Treasure fine at Penn National and will be entered shortly for her first race there. She too is doing well.
  • No Good Deed training at Gulfstream and doing ok, been a little stiff last few days and we are looking at how to help her get through that.
  • Magic Musketier good out of his last and had an easy work this week. Doing fine and will look for grass next time.

A little more good news with Liam’s Map, his 9th two year winner, winning a maiden allowance race impressively at Keeneland today. Every one helps as we head towards the sale next month with Lisa Limon.  Look at what the Liam’s Maps were selling for BEFORE his first crop hit the races running this year and you can see why having a foal by Liam’s Map out of Lisa Limon by world class sire Scat Daddy could be a grand slam home run!

10th-Keeneland, $70,887, Msw, 10-26, 2yo, 1 1/8m (off turf), 1:53.08, sy. LIAM'S LEGEND (c, 2, Liam’s Map--Indian Legend {SW, $294,550}, by Cherokee Run), bidding to become the ninth winner for his first-crop sire (by Unbridled’s Song), checked in fifth sprinting at Churchill Sept. 20 and was off as the 9-5 choice while drawing in as a main-track-only entrant in this elongated test of 2-year-old stamina. He chased freewheeling Handy (Tiznow) early, reeled that foe in upper stretch and kept on from there to don cap and gown by three lengths. Handy held for second. The winner is half to Kenda (Bodemeister). His yearling half-sister was a $300,000 KEEJAN short yearling and $325,000 KEESEP yearling. Dam Indian Legend, a full to GSW Cherokee Queen, produced a Classic Empire colt this term before being bred back to Empire Maker. Sales history: $120,000 RNA Wlg '17 KEENOV; $180,000 Ylg '18 KEESEP; $195,000 RNA 2yo '19 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $45,450. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton. O-Niall J. Brennan, Michael J. Ryan & Mike Ande

A ton of key works today all over the country, see below, lots of racing to come!

  • Everything finally good with Rapstorerocks after illness, superficial cuts, etc. detailed previously. Kelly breezed him today at Monmouth Park and he went great. He’ll be entered tomorrow for next weekend on the grass at Aqueduct.
  • Solar is doing excellent and he worked great today also at Monmouth Park. There’s a race for him November 9th at Aqueduct or an alternate at Laurel Park the same day
  • Night of Idiots had a sizzling fast work today in company and is ready for her race at Golden Gate Fields November 2nd.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake worked very well at Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio this morning. She’s ‘out of jail’ (can run outside of Monmouth Park where she was claimed) now and there’s an excellent spot for her in the book at Penn National in the beginning of November.
  • New Found Treasure fine out of an absolutely nightmare trip at The Meadowlands, bumped badly at the start, went to her knees and almost lost her rider, then was 4 wide between horses, and finally shut off making a move on the turn before flattening out to finish 7th, beaten less than 5 lengths for the win. She ships to Penn National Sunday
  • Giuliana Vee good out of her debut, ran into a couple of buzz saws in her debut as the winner ran the race in an incredible 110.07, but tried every step of the way to finish 4th in a large, strung out field at Penn National. The winning time would win stakes for 2 year old fillies in New York, and given the fact it was her debut and she was stuck deep on the rail throughout, it was a more than creditable effort.  She’s bred to run well longer and would expect a step forward next time off this effort.
  • More Ice worked really well today at Los Alamitos and should be ready to run in late November.
Says the horse is training well and very sound.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 24, 2019

  • Giuliana Vee ran into a couple of buzz saws in her debut as the winner ran the race in an incredible 110.07, but tried every step of the way to finish 4th in a large, strung out field tonight at Penn National. The winning time would win stakes for 2 year old fillies in New York, and given the fact it was her debut and she was stuck deep on the rail throughout, it was a more than creditable effort.  She’s bred to run well longer and would expect a step forward next time off this effort. Would have loved to win or finish a close 2nd but all in all, not a bad beginning for this honest, sound filly.
  • New Found Treasure runs tomorrow at The Meadowlands. Good we scratched her from the race last week in favor of this much less competitive spot.
  • Everything finally good with Rapstorerocks after illness, superficial cuts, etc. detailed previously. Kelly plans to breeze him this weekend at Monmouth Park and if he does ok look for a spot to enter him in.
  • Solar iis doing excellent. The extra at The Meadowlands didn’t go but there’s a nice race in New York at the beginning of November if nothing comes up sooner. He’s ready anytime.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake doing very well at Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio. She’s ‘out of jail’ (can run outside of Monmouth Park where she was claimed) on Oct. 27th. There’s an excellent spot for her in the book at Penn in the beginning of November.
  • Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing super. He’ll be ready to ship to Gulfstream Park to continue his training there with Kelly Breen shortly.
  • Magic Musketier good out of his last and will look for grass next time, had a decent work this week (below).

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 20, 2019

October 20, 2019 at 8:32 pm • By Robb Levinsky
  • New Found Treasure got into the race we were looking for this Friday at The Meadowlands. Good we scratched her from the race last week in favor of this much less competitive spot.
  • Giuliana Vee gets in at Penn National for her career debut in a nice maiden allowance event this Thursday. A full field, she’s doing well, Kelly Breen will let her break from the gate at Monmouth Parkone more time before she runs.

As usual, entry information is at www.equibase.com and here.  Email George@kenwoodracing.com if you wish assistance with seating-dining, etc.

  • Solar is doing excellent. We got an extra put up for him at The Meadowlands, enter Wednesday for Saturday (closing day). If that doesn’t go, we’ll look for other spots for him at other tracks.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake There’s an excellent spot for her in the book at the beginning of November.
  • Rapstorerocks had some diarrhea this morning, nothing too serious, probably a reaction to the medication he received when he lost his rider coming off the track last week at Monmouth Park, fell, and got some bloody cuts that fortunately were only skin deep. He had a fever previously, been a series of minor things delaying his next start. A perfect example of why we frequently remind people they are raceHORSES, not racecars. You can’t plan races, entry dates etc. The horse tells us when they are ready to run, we don’t tell them. The game requires patience! Yes, you’ve heard this before, yes it can be frustrating at times; we feel the same way. It’s how competitive athletics works, with horses and people.
  • Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing super. He’ll be ready to ship to Gulfstream Park to continue his training there with Kelly Breen shortly.
