Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 4, 2019

October 5, 2019 at 6:54 am • By Robb Levinsky
  • Solar ran hard and well today at The Meadowlands, finishing 3rd, beaten a nostril for 2nd, Went right to the front, set an honest pace, battled hard when challenged turning for home and repelled that runner, the heavily favored winner went by everyone but he continued to fight and just missed 2nd in a long photo. It was a nice ‘bounceback’ from last time when he got a deep cut during the race and finished 6th with an obvious excuse. He’s been 2nd and 3rd now for us in 3 starts and is a solid runner. “I was very happy with (the effort), I’d like to run him back in the same race again (at The Meadowlands) if we can towards the end of the month”, Kelly Breen
  • Annie’s Candy is good out of his race at Fresno, closed with a rush from off the pace to finish 3rd, beaten a nose for 2nd and ½ length for the win in a 4 way photo. The distance was just too short for him and it showed, as he was flying late. He’s an honest horse who almost always gives his best.
  • Start A Fire  got in the race we wanted at Laurel Parkand runs tomorrow (Saturday). The horse is doing just fine and this is a realistic spot in terms of class and especially the distance. We are hoping for a decent debut here as he begins his career.
  • Giuliana Vee and Rapstorerocks both will breeze next week, probably Tuesday Monmouth Park. There are spots to enter Rapstorerocks in the middle of October at Laurel if nothing comes up sooner. He’s ready to run now. We will know more about Giuliana Vee after her work next week but she’s close to her debut, maybe 2-3 weeks away if all keeps going well.
  • Night Of Idiots excellent out of her race, a good 3rd off a layoff at Golden Gate Fields. With this one under her belt and a switch to dirt next time she should be tough to beat.
  • Life On the Edge doing well; should be a couple of spots for her next week
  • Magic Musketier ready to run, had a nice little maintenance work. There are races for him next week at both Santa Anita and Fresno.
  • Starring John Wain had an excellent workout at Los Alamitos. He’s ready to run, there are races for him at Santa Anita or Fresno also.
  • New Found Treasure is fine. There’s a race for her next week at the Meadowlands which should be a good spot.
  • No Good Deed will ship into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park early next week most likely.
  • Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing fine
  • More Ice is back in training at Los Alamitos and doing well.  “He didn’t lose much (fitness) at the farm. Maybe work 3-4 times and look for  a race”, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
  • Bullion is doing well with Steve Asmussen in Kentucky, training at Ellis Park and Steve is looking at Texas or Louisiana circuits for his next start
  • Lisa Limon doing excellent. Hip #s for the sale are out and she sells Sat. Nov 9th, hip #1533 (below). Her covering sire, Liam’s Map, has TWO horses in grade 1 stakes this weekend at Belmont; Wicked Whisper and  Alpha Sixty Six. Even a placing for one (or both) after Basin won the Grade 1 Hopeful stakes would be huge.

Finally, see the article from Thoroughbred Daily News just below on champion Midnight Bisou, Midnight Bisou a “Game Changer”. She was purchased for just $80,000 at OBS April, and what her buyer explained (see below), says what matters and how we and other savvy buyers approach a sale better than anything I’ve seen. People spend millions for horses that can’t run, and overlook horses like this for very affordable prices. It’s NOT about a prestige pedigree or a fast work time, it’s about buying the right individual folks. Hard to fathom for many people, but the facts speak for themselves time and again.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 2, 2019

  • Start A Fire got in the race we wanted at Laurel Park after being scratched at Parx to enter here. The horse is doing just fine and this is a much more realistic spot in terms of class and especially the distance. He’s not shown much speed in his works but he’s bred to go long and improve as he matures. We are hoping for a decent debut here as he begins his career.
  • Annie’s Candy gets in a good spot at Fresno this week, will be favored and should run very well in here.
  • Solar worked Monday at Monmouth Park, an easy maintenance breeze for his race Friday afternoon, opening day at the Meadowlands. A full 12 horse field, but fits well and been training well for this.
  • Giuliana Vee and Rapstorerocks both worked really well at Monmouth Park. Giuliana Vee is about ready to run, maybe one more work, just waiting for a race for Rapstorerocks.
  • Life On the Edge doing well and should work this week at Monmouth Park, just an easy maintenance breeze
  • Night Of Idiots excellent out of her race last week at Golden Gate Fields, a good 3rd off a layoff. With this one under her belt and a switch to dirt next time she should be tough to beat.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 29, 2019

  • Night Of Idiots made her long awaited Kenwood debut at Golden Gate Fields after a layoff at the farm and finished a decent 3rd. Not a bad effort given the time off, she was climbing on the turf and it looked obvious that she was not crazy about the surface. With this one under her belt and a switch to dirt next time she should be tough to beat.
  • Solar finally gets in the entries, runs Friday afternoon the opening day at The Meadowlands. A full 12 horse field, but fits well and been training well for this.
  • Start A Fire will be SCRATCHED Monday at Parx. The horse is fine but as mentioned previously, it’s absolutely NOT the spot we were looking for. There’s an extra to enter in at Laurel Park that’s the right distance and in looking at this race we all felt it’s just not the way to begin his career. Hopefully the Laurel race will go, if not we’ll wait for something else at least reasonably suitable.
  • Life On the Edge, Giuliana Vee, Rapstorerocks all will work tomorrow or shortly at Monmouth Park.
  • Magic Musketier ready to run, looking for a spot, had a nice little maintenance work today at Los Alamitos.

  • Start A Fire makes his debut Monday at Parx. It should be a good learning experience for him and give him a solid foundation for his next start when something comes up.
  • Night Of Idiots makes her long awaited Kenwood debut after a layoff at the farm this Sunday at Golden Gate Fields. Been training very forwardly for Jonathan Wong, obviously any horse may need a race or two after a lengthy layoff to show their best but we are expecting a solid effort from her here. Anyone who needs help with seating-admissions please email George@kenwoodracing.com
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake doing nicely at Penn National.

  • Starring John Wain had an excellent workout today at Los Alamitos. He’s ready to run, looking for a spot

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 25, 2019

September 26, 2019 at 2:35 pm • By Robb Levinsky
  • Solar was entered today for Saturday at Monmouth Park in a spot where he’d be tough to beat, they got 8 horses but didn’t use it and didn’t bring it back. They are waiting to use turf races for the Meadowlands so that’s where he’ll have to run as soon as there’s a spot for him.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake arrived safely at Penn National this afternoon.
  • Life On the Edge good out of her race at Parz and ready to run back in October. Life On the Edge stumbled at the start, but recovered quickly and made the lead, got into a protracted head to head battle with the other speed horse in the race and tired to finish 7th and last. Really she just seems to be a cut below these high-level allowance horses running for an $80,000 purse, at least at this juncture. Seems to have come back ok so far, we’ll know more in the next day or two but should be fine to run back in a less salty spot next month.
  • Giuliana Vee is 2 or 3 works away from her debut.
  • Rapstorerocks ready to run whenever we can get a spot for him.
  • Start A Fire ready for anything suitable that comes up.
  • Night Of Idiots  “doing really well, almost ready to run” Jonathan Wong.
  • Magic Musketier ready to run, looking for a spot.
  • Starring John Wain ready to run, looking for a spot
  • New Found Treasure is fine today. There’s a race for her in about three weeks at the Meadowlands we’ll point for which should be a good spot.
  • No Good Deed will ship into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park later next week most likely.
  • Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing fine
  • More Ice excellent and ready to return from his brief R&R on the farm.
  • Annie’s Candy is fine and looking for the right spot, good out of easy maintenance work today (below).
  • Bullion is doing well with Steve Asmussen in Kentucky.
  • Lisa Limon doing excellent. Hip #s for the sale are out and she sells Sat. Nov 9th, hip #1533 (below).  Liam’s Map has two more 2yos in stakes this weekend, Buyer’s Remorse and Song River (below). These will be real longshots, not likely anything like Basin winning the Hopeful, but even a placing by one of them would add to his reputation considerably. Just having two more runners in major stakes is impressive and promising for a young sire like this.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 22, 2019

September 23, 2019 at 6:34 am • By Robb Levinsky

Excellent morning of training at Monmouth Park today (see photos below), also works in California.

Here’s some details, all works below….

  • Giuliana Vee worked very well this morning at Monmouth Park and is 2 or 3 works away from her debut.
  • Solar had an excellent work (not caught by clockers but super work in 48.0) and will be entered Wednesday for Saturday at Monmouth Park in a spot where he’d be tough to beat, hoping it goes.
  • Rapstorerocks worked with Start A Fire and one other horse and worked well, he’s ready whenever we can get a spot for him.
  • Start A Fire worked fine but slow, beaten by both horses he ran with (including Rapstorerocks above) while not doing anything wrong. Time was decent. There’s an extra at Parx, enter tomorrow for next weekend, maybe we’ll have some luck there and get to run, he’s ready for anything suitable that comes up.
  • In California Night Of Idiots worked well again this morning at Golden Gate Fields. “She’s doing really well, almost ready to run,” trainer Jonathan Wong.

Racing news…

  • ShimmyShimmy Shake had a good break, a clean trip, and plain tired to finish 7th today at Monmouth Park. She’s had every shot here, is sound and trains well, either just doesn’t like Monmouth Park or just doesn’t have it period. She’ll ship to Penn National now, a much easier circuit. The next couple there will tell the story.
  • Life On the Edge will run in an allowance at Parx with an enhanced $80,000 purse on Monday. While we’d have liked to run at Monmouth Park Sunday in the stake, it really was a no-brainer to run at a better distance, for more money, against a smaller field, and be able to get top rider Paco Lopez (who rode her so impressively in her maiden win) on her again. For this money certainly not an easy spot but we are expecting a big effort from her if she can handle the tricky Parx surface, which is sometimes a challenge for horses the first time over the track. Please let us know if you plan to attend, George@kenwoodrfacing.com for help with seating – admissions everywhere.
  • New Found Treasure got some antihistamines after her race and was much better. She was stung by a wasp on the face yesterday morning and almost didn’t run. The swelling went down and she was cleared to run by both Kelly and the state vet, but it’s likely that took a little out of her. There’s a race for her in about three weeks at the Meadowlands we’ll point for which should be a good spot.
  • No Good Deed will need a few more days before shipping into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park.
  • Shake It Up Baby back into training at T-Square Stud and doing fine, see attached photos courtesy of Adam Parker.

  • More Ice excellent and ready to return from his brief R&R on the farm.
  • Annie’s Candy is fine and looking for the right spot, good out of easy maintenance work.

  • New Found Treasure sat a good trip, close up in a nice stalking spot under Nik Juarez and plain didn’t fire at Monmouth Park on Saturday, finishing 5th. Not to make excuses but she was stung by a wasp on the face early this morning and almost didn’t run. The swelling went down and she was cleared to run by both Kelly and the state vet, but it’s not impossible that took a little out of her, or that she simply didn’t have enough kick when asked. There’s a race for her in about three weeks at the Meadowlands we’ll point for that should be a good spot.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake runs tomorrow (Sunday) at Monmouth Park. The race flow appears to set up a lot better for her here than in any of her previous starts for us. A good break, a clean trip, and a top effort will produce a much better result than she’s shown thus far. Been training really well for this too.
  • Life On the Edge will run in an allowance at Parx with an enhanced $80,000 purse on Monday. While we’d have liked to run at Monmouth Sunday in the stake, it really was a no-brainer to run at a better distance, for more money, against a smaller field, and be able to get top rider Paco Lopez (who rode her so impressively in her maiden win) on her again. For this money certainly not an easy spot but we are expecting a big effort from her if she can handle the tricky Parx surface, which is sometimes a challenge for horses the first time over the track. All entry info. is here as usual .  A reminder that ALL entries (and planned workouts too!) are subject to change for many reasons, NO horse is “going to run” until the gate opens, and NOBODY knows “what race, what time, what post”, etc. until after the entries come out.

Three entries in 3 days, morning training at Monmouth Park, here’s the details…

Sunday will be one of your final opportunities of the year to see morning training at Monmouth Park for this season. Giuliana Vee, Solar and Rapstorerocks all likely to have timed works, perhaps Start A Fire also. New Found Treasure, ShimmyShimmy Shake and Life On the Edge will NOT train as they either will have just run or will be about to run. Supposed to be ideal weather, please email your most excellent host George@kenwoodracing.com for meeting arrangements. Space is very limited, first come, first served.

Racing news…

  • Saturday New Found Treasure runs at Monmouth Park. While it’s a larger field and competitive, she fits very well in here and if she runs back to her two races for us (both solid 3rds), she’ll be the horse to beat in this one.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake gets in Sunday at Monmouth Park, a much better spot so she’ll run Sunday, NOT Saturday. The race flow appears to set up a lot better for her here than in any of her previous starts for us. A good break, a clean trip, and a top effort will produce a much better result than in any of her previous starts for us. Been training really well for this too.
  • Life On the Edge will run in an allowance at Parx with an enhanced $80,000 purse on Monday. While we’d have liked to run at Monmouth Park on Sunday in the stake, it really was a no-brainer to run at a better distance, for more money, against a smaller field, and be able to get top rider Paco Lopez (who rode her so impressively in her maiden win) on her again. Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 19, 2019

September 20, 2019 at 6:39 am • By Robb Levinsky

An exciting weekend with three entries, see below:

  • Saturday New Found Treasure runs at Monmouth Park. While it’s a larger field and competitive, she fits very well in here and if she runs back to her two races for us (both solid 3rds), she’ll be the horse to beat in this one.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake gets in Sunday at Monmouth Park, a much better spot so she’ll run Sunday, NOT Saturday.
  • Life On the Edge is entered in the $75,000 Hollywood Wildcat stakes at Monmouth Park for Sunday but is likely NOT to run, it came up a super tough spot, 11 horses including several coming out of top races at Saratoga. By good fortune (and with some careful maneuvering on our part) an allowance at Parx with an enhanced $80,000 purse scheduled for Saturday (Pa. Derby Day) has been carried over to next Monday, enter tomorrow. Since you can scratch from a stake without penalty if the allowance race at Parx goes we will run there. If the Parx race does not go there are several other allowance races towards the end of the month at various tracks. Stay tuned for more info. but as of now highly unlikely to run at Monmouth Park in Sunday’s stake.

All entry info. is here.  Contact George@kenwoodrfacing.com for help with seating – admissions everywhere.

  • Race for Start A Fire’s debut did not go at Monmouth Park and got only 3 horses so we’ll have to look elsewhere. Nothing immediately on tap at any tracks in the area. He’s ready to run.
  • Race for Magic Musketier at Los Alamitos did not go a second time, so we’ll need to look for something else for him.

This is a good time for another reminder that ALL entries are subject to change for one of many reasons, NO horse is “going to run” until the gate opens, and NOBODY knows “what race, what time, what post”, etc. until after the entries come out. No we are not hiding this info. from you, no there’s not some other person who knows or place you can look to get earlier notice. Sorry, it simply doesn’t work that way. Many times people say “I just need to know so I can make travel plans or other arrangements”. We’d love to help, but every single horse owner across the country deals with exactly the same problem. People end up booking flights at the last minute cross country to see their horses run in major races, fly out and the horse gets sick the morning of the race or hurt warming up on the way to the starting gate, and they made a trip for nothing. This is not a game for little boys (or girls) in short pants folks!

  • In other news Giuliana Vee and Solar well, looking to breeze them both this weekend
  • Annie’s Candy is fine and looking for the right spot, had an easy maintenance work today (below).
  • More Ice excellent and ready to return from his brief R&R on the farm.
  • Shake It Up Baby went back into training at T-Square Stud today

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 17, 2019

September 18, 2019 at 7:51 pm • By Robb Levinsky

This could be a very exciting weekend with major entries from coast to coast, here’s a rundown…

  • Tomorrow (Wed.) we will enter New Found Treasure for Saturday at Monmouth Park and Magic Musketier for Saturday at Los Alamitos. Both pointing for these spots and doing well.
  • Then on Thursday we will enter Life On the Edge in the $75,000 Hollywood Wildcat stakes at Monmouth Park for Sunday. By good fortune (and with some careful maneuvering on our part) an allowance at Parx with an enhanced $80,000 purse scheduled for this Saturday (Pa. Derby Day) has been carried over to next Monday, enter Friday. Since you can scratch from a stake without penalty, we have the option to enter her in the stake at Monmouth, look at the competition, and if the allowance race at Parx goes run there instead if we prefer. Finally, worst case if the Parx race does not go and we don’t like the stake at Monmouth there are several other allowance races towards the end of the month at various tracks. Rarely do you get multiple opportunities like this. Would be great to run in the stake at Monmouth and if it appears to be a realistic spot that’s what we’ll do.
  • Also on Thursday we will enter ShimmyShimmy Shake and Start A Fire at Monmouth Park for Sunday, so if all the races go (not likely) we could have two horses at two tracks on Saturday and three at Monmouth on Sunday including the debut of Start A Fire, and Life On the Edge in a stake. Make your plans to join us, stay tuned, and AFTER entries are announced be sure to email George@kenwoodracing.com if you need help with seating – admissions at any track.

This is a good time for another reminder that ALL entries are subject to change for one of many reasons, NO horse is “going to run” until the gate opens, and NOBODY knows “what race, what time, what post”, etc. until after the entries come out tomorrow and Thursday (see above). No we are not hiding this info. from you, no there’s not some other person who knows or place you can look to get earlier notice. Sorry, it simply doesn’t work that way.
