• Giuliana Vee got in a great spot with a perfect post this evening at Penn National and took advantage of it, sitting just off the early pace in 5^th, making a move on the far turn to gain contention, and finally wearing down the leader (who had the advantage of a long uncontested lead) in the final stride to win by a neck in a photo finish. It was an exciting win for this honest, hard trying filly after several close on-the-board efforts. After her last effort at Laurel Park, we said “She’d been off several months and unable to train much at Penn while no racing…The race should clearly have her fit and ready for her next start and we expect a big effort next time at Penn in a few weeks” and tonight she delivered on that prediction. Sometimes it takes time with horses; there’s an old saying “there’s 1 way to win a race and 100 ways to lose one”. Tonight things went her way and she got the job done. Hopefully she’ll build on this and have a good summer for us. We’re certainly off to a fine start for the second half of the year overall, with a 2^nd and two wins in July so far.
• Seven Seven had another nice breeze Monday at Monmouth Park, as he approaches his debut. Doing excellent. Here’s a training video from Monday.

• Pango entered and expected to run this Friday, July 10^th at Penn National. Didn’t come up as easy as we’d have hoped and a full field but as long as he keeps doing well, we plan to run.
• No Good Deed will be entered Friday for a race next week at Penn National, doing excellent.
• Rapstorerocks excellent out of his nice win last week at Penn National. A hearty congratulations to all the owners, including our partners Degaetano and Pastore Inc. whose owner, Ralph Pastore, named this handsome horse! He’s nicely positioned for a good season at Penn now and should run back towards the end of the month.
• New Found Treasure good out of an excellent 2^nd at Penn National. Ran hard and well despite coming back a bit quick on just 10 days rest. She should be fit and ready for distance grass races all summer now.
• Life on the Edge good out of her race at Delaware Park, beaten just 2 lengths for the win in a much improved effort. Kelly Breen feels confident she’ll run very well at Monmouth next time.
• Fire’s Finale excellent out of a fine debut at Gulfstream. Off this nice effort we have even more reason to believe he’s a talented horse and we are looking forward to an exciting career with him. Congratulations to all his owners!
• Our Liam’s Map – Lisa Limon foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse than this. Lisa is back in foal and doing well and so far it’s been nothing but good news for this group.

General News

• We are very pleased to announce that group #59 was totally sold out in record time. We had an online drawing Monday evening with 10 interested people for the one available share for non-Triple Crown Club members. Congratulations to Co-Owner Seven Fliegelman, who will be the final member of this exciting group. The Candy Ride (ARG) filly is at Monmouth Park and training towards her debut. See video.
• Given the exceptionally high level of interest in owning another 2 year old from our owners, we will be attending the OBS July 2yo sale next week looking for one or two more horses for the stable. This will be the final opportunity for this year to purchase a nice two year old at public auction. The under tack show began today and was very sparsely attended. Not many people are going to make the trip to Ocala in July at the moment and everyone is anticipating an incredible buyer’s market. Stay tuned and thanks for your support!
• Monmouth Park opened with a full weekend of exciting racing featuring large fields, competitive racing, and good horses. Lots of new trainers and jockeys on hand this year. There are some significant limitations given the COVID-19 virus (read TDN article), but racing has returned to the Jersey Shore.

General News

• We are pleased to announce that group #59 was totally sold out in record time. Released Wednesday to Triple Crown members, today to all current co-owners, and oversubscribed. We thank you for your support of our program. You can see some photos of our newest addition to the stable training this morning at Monmouth Park. She’s a lovely Candy Ride filly, the first foal out of a full sister to famed racehorse and sire Colonel John.
• Another large group for our online event via GoToMeeting last night. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend. Look for another seminar later this month.
• Monmouth Park opened today, with a full weekend of exciting racing ahead. Large fields, competitive racing, good horses. Lots of new trainers and jockeys on hand this year.

• Rapstorerocks sat a nice trip, made his move to take over the lead in the stretch, and won by a clear two lengths while confidently ridden as the heavy favorite this evening at Penn National. Nice win and a hearty congratulations to all the owners, including our partners Degaetano and Pastore Inc. whose owner, Ralph Pastore, named this handsome horse! We said going in we were looking for a win and we got it. He’s nicely positioned for a good season at Penn National now.
• Pango arrived to trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National from Gulfstream Park this week in search of softer spots than he has run in recently. He arrived well and happy, see photo. There was a race to enter in today that was the right spot and it went so he’s in for next Friday, July 10^th at Penn. Didn’t come up as easy as we’d have hoped and a full field so we’ll look at our options here.
• No Good Deed will be entered tomorrow for a race at Delaware Park next Wednesday, doing well.

• New Found Treasure was an excellent 2^nd this evening at Penn National. The heavily favored winner got loose on a long lead and she just couldn’t run her down but she was clear of the rest of the large field while doing everything right from the far outside post. Ran hard and well despite coming back a bit quick on just 10 days rest. She’s much better on the turf and while she tried on the dirt last winter and did manage one win and several placings, she should be fit and ready for distance grass races all summer now.
• Giuliana Vee gets in the entries at Penn National next Wednesday, a great spot, a perfect post, no excuses here, just needs to fire her best and get a decent trip to make it to the winner’s circle.
• Rapstorerocks runs Friday in a good spot at Penn National; if he runs back to his last race and gets a decent trip he has a great shot to end up in the winner’s circle
• No Good Deed doing well, she didn’t get in the same race Giuliana Vee got in at Penn National (we entered both and the race overfilled). Hopefully the same race will come back for her next week, she’s doing excellent.
• Seven Seven good out of another fine work at Monmouth Park.  He’s making steady progress towards his debut which should come towards the end of July. He’ll have some gate work now as he approaches his debut.

• Life on the Edge good out of her race at Delaware Park, beaten just 2 lengths for the win in a much improved effort. The difference was the very unfavorable inside post, which meant she was stuck on the rail and pressured throughout. When she finally got some running room in the stretch she rebroke nicely and ran hard to the wire. With an outside post and a different trip here, she was the winner. That’s literally just the luck of the draw. She was not claimed (as we expected she wouldn’t be) and we are glad because she’s honestly a much better horse on the turf and despite a rough start to her 3 year old season she’s sound and has talent.  Kelly Breen feels confident she’ll run very well at Monmouth Park next time.
• Fire’s Finale excellent out of a fine debut at Gulfstream Park. Off this nice effort, we have even more reason to believe he’s a talented horse and we are looking forward to an exciting career with him. Congratulations to all his owners!

• No purchases today at a shockingly strong opening day of the Fasig-Tipton 2yo sale in Maryland (read TDN article). Our team scoured the sale looking for high quality horses at attractive prices and at the end of day one, came close on two of our top choices but were unwilling to pay top dollar in a strong market. We attended this sale because all indications were for obvious reasons this would be a buyer’s market, but that clearly was not the case today. We do have four horses for tomorrow that were in our absolute top group and if one or two of them fall through the cracks and/or the sale slows down on day 2, we’ll be there. In March, we bought Seven Seven after getting shut out early at what is more and more looking like a super value price (he just had another excellent work today at Monmouth Park and if he had been in this sale, he would have almost certainly brought a lot more than we paid for him) and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something similar tomorrow. As our loyal owners know, unlike syndicates who use client money and mark up horses, our interests are firmly aligned with yours because we invest our own money in every horse we buy, all with NO markups. When we buy a horse you know we feel we got something really worth owning at the right price. All the horses on our final bid list have been personally selected by trainer Kelly Breen and our team; with luck we’ll be able to come home with one of the select group we really want tomorrow. • Seven Seven had another fine work this morning at Monmouth Park, in company, quick without being pressured. He’s making steady progress towards his debut which should come towards the end of July. He’ll have some gate work now, as he approaches his debut.

• Fire’s Finale made his much anticipated debut today at Gulfstream and ran very well, finishing 3rd. Broke a step slow and started out near the back of the pack but made an nice sustained move to get 3^rd money while not threatening the winner.  As trainer Ron Spatz stated going into the race, “he probably wants to go a little further, but I think he has enough speed to show himself going 5/8”. This is a very typical debut for many good horses and most move forward in their 2^nd starts. For example, the winner here was a good 3^rd in his debut last time, and the 2^nd horse was 5^th in his debut. Both had an experience edge which was the difference today. Off this nice debut effort we have even more reason to believe he’s a talented horse and we are looking forward to a fine career with him. Congratulations to all his owners!

• In other horse news, Pango was 7th at Gulfstream Park with no excuse. It was the right distance, level, and post; he got a decent ride-trip sitting close up early and plain didn’t fire in the stretch.

We had no less than five different entries today at three different tracks and two horses got in as follows:

• Fire’s Finale will make his much anticipated debut Saturday at Gulfstream Park. Comes into the race doing well, has trained forwardly from day one for this. We think he’s a talented horse and are looking forward to getting his career started.
• New Found Treasure was entered today for next week at Penn National and the race went. The good news is, it’s just the right spot. The bad news is she got the very unfavorable far outside post in an overflow field and it’s back in just 10 days, but she’s doing well and should be fit and ready for this and other distance grass races all summer.
• Giuliana Vee good and was entered today for a race next week at Penn National that did not go, she’s ready to run anytime. There’s a race for her July 8^th to enter in.

• Thanks again to everyone who was able to join us for our seminar ‘Buying Horses at Auction’ last week. Another excellent turnout, over 25 people, really nice to see so many owners and friends. Look for our next seminar in July.
• Congratulations to the connections of Tiz The Law, winner of the Belmont Stakes and a very nice horse despite coming along in a crazy year and the Acorn winning filly Gamine, perhaps the fastest three year old of either sex.

Nice works for our two year olds as they approach their debuts…

• Fire’s Finale had another fine breeze Sunday morning at Gulfstream Park and is ready to run. Off of this, we’ll see how he comes out of it and look at entering Wednesday for Saturday, or next week for the following week. All systems go at this point, ahead of schedule. You can see him galloping Saturday in the Vimeo link and the work on Sunday, along with all his previous works. He's worked 6 times since coming to Gulfstream, each about a week apart at increasingly longer distances, all of them well within himself.
   

• Seven Seven breezed this morning at Monmouth Park and is making steady progress towards his debut. He’s had three works since arriving at Monmouth at the beginning of June, each about 1 week apart and all of them quick without being asked. Really couldn’t ask for more at this point. If all keeps going this well he’ll be ready to run towards the end of next month.

• Pango runs Wednesday at Gulfstream Park. Doing well and fits in this spot. Right distance, level, and post.
• Life on the Edge banged her knee on the screen of her stall last night at Monmouth Park. She had superficial swelling according to Kelly Breen. Assuming she’s ok tomorrow she’ll be entered at Laurel Park Wednesday for Saturday, with a Delaware Park race as a backup.
• Giuliana Vee good and should be ready to run at Penn National in early July.

All three horses who ran at Penn National on the first night of racing for the season there last week good out of their races.

• No Good Deed good out of a much improved effort, finishing a close and closing 4^th, beaten about 4 lengths for the win and about 2 lengths for 2^nd. It was a decent race, especially considering she hadn’t run since February and this was a very fast run race for the level, so we’d expect her to move forward off this one and find her way to the winner’s circle at Penn soon.
• New Found Treasuregood and will be entered Wednesday for the following week at Penn; just her spot. She should be fit and ready for that one and other distance grass races all summer.
• Rapstorerocks fine out of a good 2^nd despite the wrong distance – surface. A nice tightener to have him ready for longer races as things open up at Penn. Off this race he too looks ready for the winner’s circle shortly.

• Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal both well in Kentucky. We got a bit of really good news from the recently concluded OBS 2yo in training sale when a Liam’s Map filly sold for $700,000, an especially impressive number considering the overall sale results.

General News

• A big thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our seminar “Buying Horses at Auction” last night. Another excellent turnout, over 25 people, really nice to see so many owners and friends….  Whether you attended last night’s seminar or not, we’d love any feedback - suggestions for future seminars. What topics would interest you for future events? How can we make these seminars more interesting – engaging – useful – educational - fun? We want our owners to be educated and informed, that’s why we do this !!!
• The Fasig-Tipton 2yo sale is almost upon us. Under tack show begins next week and we’ll be there. Stay tuned for more updates and info. as sale time approaches.

This evening, we had three horses run at Penn National on the first night of racing for the season there and got solid efforts from all of them.

• No Good Deed ran in the first race of the day-meet and came though with a much improved effort (compared to her three previous totally up the track starts at Gulfstream), finishing a close and closing 4^th tonight. She was beaten about 4 lengths for the win and about 2 lengths for 2^nd, not a bad effort. As has been the case in all of her starts, she broke slowly and bumped with another horse coming out of the gate, putting her off the early pace. She looked like she was backing out of it badly on the far turn as she had in her previous races but instead found a new gear in the stretch to close nicely, galloping out ahead of the field after the wire. It was a decent effort, especially considering she hadn’t run since February and this was a very fast run race for the level, so we’d expect her to move forward off this one and find her way to the winner’s circle at Penn soon.
• In the very next race New Found Treasure ran in a grass race at a distance way too short for her and the result was similar to No Good Deed, as she too finished a fast closing 4^th. She broke well and settled well back early in a speed laden race, then made a very nice stretch run to be beaten just under 3 lengths for the win while missing 3^rd by just a neck. She also galloped out ahead of the field and as trainer Mark Salvaggio put it right after the race “if it even had been 5 &1/2 furlongs instead of 5, she’d been no worse than 2^nd and probably won”. We ran her here with an eye on another grass race around 2 turns, just her spot, that’s scheduled for July 4^th weekend. This race is sure to help have her fit and ready for that one and other distance grass races all summer.
• Finally Rapstorerocks tried dirt for the first time and he too ran in a race way too short for him. Bumped and shuffled back to last in the early going, he settled down and commenced a sustained run to finish a fine 2^nd, well back of the favored winner who was too far in front to be caught, but way ahead of the remainder of the field and improving position with every stride. It was a perfect example of just how much the class level matters in racing; off the board in 8 previous starts at top tracks on the right distance-surface, he was a good 2^nd here against much less company despite the wrong distance – surface. Here too it was a nice tightener to have him ready for longer races as things open up at Penn and off this race he too looks ready for the winner’s circle shortly.

While obviously you always hope for a win, all three of these horses were returning off layoffs in races not at their favored distances. The goal was a good effort that would have them fit and ready for their next starts and we got exactly that this evening with each of them. They all appear to have come back well and if they move forward as we’d expect now, all of them are sitting on wins shortly.

• In entry news, the race goes for Pango at Gulfstream Park, he runs June 24^th and after that we expect him to ship north for the summer. Ran well last time and hoping for another step forward in this spot.
• Life on the Edge doing really well at Monmouth Park and expecting a big race from her next time out. Just looking for somewhere to run. She’ll be entered at Laurel Park next week.
• Seven Seven making steady progress towards his debut. Will work again beginning of next week at Monmouth Park.
• Giuliana Vee good and should be ready to run at Penn National in early July.
• Fire’s Finale excellent at Gulfstream Park. Ron Spatz is considering a race at the end of June for his debut, well ahead of schedule, although probably the next race that comes up in the book in mid-July is more likely. He’s going to work him again shortly and make a decision.

General News

• Our online seminar, ‘Buying Horses at Auction’ is this Thursday June 18^th at 7:30pm. This will be a comprehensive introduction to the sales process, with specific facts and figures. Plus as an added ‘bonus’ we’ll have our exclusive selections for The Belmont Stakes day of racing Saturday at the end of the presentation with some time for people to discuss their own picks for the day. The OBS two year old sale ended last week with some rather incredible stats. The catalog featured 779 horses; 536 were withdrawn, 149 horses went through the ring and were reported not sold, meaning only 94 of 779 horses entered actually changed hands and almost all the money was spent on less than 20 horses! As you will learn during the seminar, results from sales year after year clearly show that the ‘top horses’ billionaires buy in bidding wars grossly underperform, but that doesn’t stop people with a lot more money than common sense from overpaying. If you want to know more about how this fascinating process works, here’s your chance.
• An ‘Open Letter to the Industry’ spearheaded by Kenwood Racing and signed by 40 owners, trainers, jockeys, farms, sales consignors, etc. and including many of the leading people in the business appeared in the TDN (Thoroughbred Daily News) on June 8^th and has already received a great deal of attention. Saving Racing – A Roadmap received extensive coverage from our friends at Thorofan.
• Good news! We entered three horses for opening day at Penn National, Friday, June 19^th, and all three got in! And there’s a very good chance that Monmouth Park will be allowed to have spectators – owners attend the races as opening day (July 3^rd) approaches. Racing returns to Delaware Park with spectators permitted tomorrow. Things are opening up and we have lots of entry updates for your horses as racing returns to mid-Atlantic tracks.

• New Found Treasure runs in a grass race (race 2 on Friday) at a distance way too short for her. It’s the right level but will be tough for her to sprint here; the race is sure to help have her fit for longer distance races all summer and hopefully she’ll make a solid showing.
• Rapstorerocks tries dirt and he too runs in a race way too short for him at Penn National on Friday (race 8) but he’s also doing well and worst case, it’s a good tightener to have him ready for longer races as things open up at Penn.
• Life on the Edge worked 3 furlongs at Monmouth Park. Looking for a race for her ASAP (we entered in a race last week at Laurel Park - the race got 17 entries for 12 slots and we didn’t get in). We will enter her tomorrow for Saturday at Penn National and if that doesn’t go, there’s a race for her at Laurel Park next week. Doing really well and expecting a big race from her next time out.

• Giuliana Vee good out of her race at Laurel Park and should be ready to run at Penn National in about 2 weeks. The race at Laurel Park should clearly have her fit and ready for her next start and we expect a big effort next time at Penn.
• Pango well at Gulfstream Park, looking at a spot for him June 24^th, after that we expect him to ship north.
• Fire’s Finale had an excellent work Sunday at Gulfstream Park. Worked in company, galloped out ahead of the other horse. Trainer Ron Spatz is considering a race at the end of June for his debut, well ahead of schedule, although probably the next race that comes up in the book in mid-July is more likely. He’s going to work him again in about 7 days and make a decision.  The horse continues to do really well.
