We’ll begin with a little ‘teachable moment’ about the claiming process using our old friend Highwaytwentyseven, who was claimed from us last month after a very successful summer with Kenwood Tacing and yesterday finished a dull 7^th in his first start for his new owners (below). He was the strong 2^nd choice in the race and like so many horses do after leaving our care, regressed under new ownership. History shows very very few horses do as well for the new connections as they did for us. We know when the time has come to move on, plain and simple. Of course there are exceptions, but if you take a look at all horses claimed from us over the years here and then look up their post Kenwood Racing results by typing their names in the search box on the upper right here, the numbers will speak (loudly and clearly) for themselves…

• Fire's Finale had a fast and more important, exceptionally good work at Belmont Park. Not only was it the best work of the day at the distance time wise, but he did it well within himself. When you consider he’s not shown a lot of early speed in his races, that makes the quick time all the more impressive. Trainer Kelly Breen chose to pass up an allowance race a couple of weeks ago to give him a little time between his race last month and his scheduled start in the Pa. Nursery Stakes Dec. 7th and it appears to have really benefited him. Younger horses, particularly horses bred to mature and go longer distances like Fire’s Finale and Seven Seven, can show dramatic improvements at this stage. Sometimes a little R&R at the farm or a little time between races can do wonders. We can’t guarantee what he’ll do in the stake next month or what the future will bring for him, but he literally could not be coming into the race any better.

• Adhwaa was entered for next week at Parx yesterday and the race came back but at the wrong distance so we didn’t enter. She’s ready to run and we’re looking for a race for her anywhere in the area.
• A real shame we had to scratch Pango yesterday at Gulfstream Park. He’s doing very well and will ship to Ocala tomorrow for a little richly deserved R&R this winter.
• Blu Candy good out of her work Sunday at Belmont Park and just about ready for her debut. Trainer Kelly Breen plans to work her from the gate shortly and assuming she gets her gate card, we can start looking for a race for her.
• Tracy Ann's Legacy excellent and will be entered next week at Gulfstream Park.
• Seven Seven enjoying his R&R at Sunset Meadow farm. He is expected to go back into training right around New Years.
• Life On the Edge well at Sunset Meadow farm. Should be back in training before the end of the year.
• Lisa Limon and weanling by Liam’s Map both very well in Kentucky. We’ll be announcing our plans for breeding her back in 2021 shortly.

• Adhwaa was entered for a race at Aqueduct and it did not go. There’s a race to enter in this Wednesday for next week at Parx (where she ran so well last time). Hopefully that one will go for her, she’s doing really well.
• Pango is doing excellent since arriving in Florida so we went ahead and entered him and the race went at Gulfstream Park West for Wednesday. Like all grass races, a full field and competitive group, but he fits well in here and if he runs back to his last 3 excellent races at Penn (2 wins and a flying 2^nd), he has a real shot. If it comes off the grass he will NOT run.
• Blu Candy worked Sunday at Belmont Park and did fine but a slow work.  Getting close to her debut now.

Horses need a little down time to revitalize, just like people do. He and Life On the Edge (below) will be back in training soon, all the better for the R&R.

Congratulations to all the winners and all the runners on a very exciting Breeder’s Cup weekend!!!

This is the time of year when most quality racing stables, ourselves included, look to sell – retire our less productive runners to open up some space to purchase new horses in the coming year via claiming, private purchases, and at the two year old sales this winter. We are very pleased to have found good homes for several horses recently such as Giuliana Vee (read below), Rapstorerocks and Itsgottabemyway and now have our stable down to the seven runners detailed below. All of them have shown proven ability or in the case of younger horses, obvious potential. It’s been a great year for us on the racetrack and as 2020 winds down to a few final races we look forward to seeing these horses run for us next year as we add new horses-groups to the stable beginning in January or February. Hopefully we’ll have a couple more wins to add to our totals before the end of the year. Thanks to everyone for your support, we look forward to another very successful and fun year with you in 2021!

• Adhwaa good out of her excellent, fast closing 2^nd at Parx. Well back in the early going, she made a terrific late run to pass most of the field and was flying at the finish to be beaten just under a length for the. She picked up $6,000 and will earn several times that when she breaks her maiden, hopefully in her next couple of starts. Congratulations to the owners of Group #60!
• Pango shipped to trainer Ron Spatz in Florida Friday morning and arrived safely today (see attached photo). One or two races at Gulfstream, a little R&R afterwards in Ocala, and point for another successful season with Mark Salvaggio at Penn next year. As soon as he’s had a little time to settle in we’ll look for a race for him.
• We are so pleased that Giuliana Vee has been retired to such a wonderful home after a fine racing career for us. Co-Owner Mike Perullo, who named her, wrote this today…I first want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to name Giuliana Vee in the first place. Secondly, I want to thank you for your patience and the way you handled her and gave her an opportunity to be competitive. Winning her maiden race, coming from off the pace in a photo finish, is something I will never forget. Giuliana’s dad, upon hearing the news that she had been sold, emailed me this ‘Thanks Mike, it was a joy to be a part of it. Just hearing her name during a race was well worth it. Thank you for keeping our Giuliana in your heart. I guess this is a fitting day for this announcement’ (she had passed on Nov. 5,2014).

She will be in PA near Fair Hill to let down. She will go to Laura McKinney’s (Ann Merryman’s cousin) farm in Lexington to visit The Factor. Then she will come back to Maryland at Marathon Farm which is Peter Angelos’ farm. My broodmares live there. It is a spectacular farm. Krissy Close, who’s farm she will be at until February, manages my yearlings. She will send photos today or tomorrow when we get her settled in, and all along her journey. Giuliana will be loved and always have top notch care. I promise. Thank you again for trusting me with her. I’m so happy to have her. I’m going to spend the day with her tomorrow! Laura

Two races at two Pa. tracks yesterday…

• Adhwaa took a big step forward off her Kenwood debut last month (5^th) with an excellent, fast closing 2^nd at Parx. Well back in the early going, she made a terrific late run to pass most of the field and was flying at the finish to be beaten just under a length for the win (see attached chart). This race offers an excellent ‘teachable moment’ on two things we mention frequently. First, the largest part of the result is the level of the race – competition. In her debut, after none of the races we wanted to run in went for weeks, we were finally forced to run in a maiden allowance race where the competition was exceptionally tough and she was a hard-trying but well beaten 5^th. This time we found exactly the right level (maiden $40,000 claiming); good horses but a lot less tough than the previous group and the result spoke for itself. Another lesson is that the first time a horse runs, or runs after a lengthy layoff, they almost always need the race and move forward off of it. Here too, the much improved result spoke for itself in her second start off a layoff. We purchased this filly for a value price, a lot less than the $40,000 level she successfully ran in here, and off of this effort she looks like an ideal fit for winter racing for some very nice purses in NY, Pa., Maryland. She picked up $6,000 for her 2^nd today and will earn several times that when she breaks her maiden, hopefully in her next couple of starts. Congratulations to the owners of Group #60!
• Then Giuliana Vee drew a favorable post and was in a good spot but was bumped at the start, dropped far back and never fired at all, finishing a dull 8^th at Penn National. She’s a pretty honest, consistent filly, every horse has an off night (just like people do) because they are raceHORSES, not raceCARS.  We are pleased to announce that after the race she was sold privately and will take up residence as a broodmare on a lovely Pa. farm and we expect will have a long and happy life. A fine ending for fun group and a good home for a nice filly, what more could anyone ask for?

• Pango is heading to Florida for turf racing there, we expect his van to ship out tomorrow (Friday). One or two races at Gulfstream Park, a little R&R afterwards in Ocala, and point for another successful season with Mark Salvaggio at Penn National next year. He had a nice maintenance work yesterday and Mark said he’s doing well and went great.

• We are very pleased to announce that New Found Treasure has been sold privately to a wonderful new home. Longtime horsewoman Judy Cook picked her up Saturday at Penn and she arrived safely at her lovely farm in New Jersey and has settled in nicely (see attached photo). As with all horses under our care, we were committed to finding a safe and happy home for Treasure at the appropriate time. She won three races for us and was a lot of fun and now the time has come for her to have a second career off the track.

• Rapstorerocks far back in the early going, rallied strongly in the stretch to finish a good 3^rd tonight at Penn National, beaten a nose for 2^nd and just ahead of two other horses in a blanket finish. The winner was clearly best but he ran well in a large field despite being in tight when making his move, which clearly cost him 2^nd money. We should be able to get one more start into him before he goes to the sale in December.
• Adhwaa was entered at two different tracks and the race went for her at Parx. She runs next week in a nice 7 horse field in what should be a good spot for her.  Looking forward to seeing her run.

The brief time off at the farm really did her a world of good, she’s bred to be better as she matures and it looks like she’s making genuine progress. She’s on track to make her debut well before the end of the year, perhaps even by the end of November.

• Monmouth Park Shows Increases In Handle As 2020 N.J. Thoroughbred Racing Season Comes To A COVID-Free Close

• Itsgottabemyway was 9^th yesterday at Parx with no real excuse. Sat a good stalking trip and flattened out turning for home. Rider said she never was comfortable on the very soft, heavy, wet grass course. She shipped to Penn National and arrived fine. Will try her on dirt there with Mark Salvaggio and hope for a better race next time. 

• Giuliana Vee  was entered today at Penn National and the race went with a full 10 horse field. She drew a favorable post and fits well in this spot. Seems to be sitting on a winning effort if she gets the right trip and runs as well as she did in last start (a flying 2^nd).

• Rapstorerocks runs Friday at Penn National. A large field but training strongly for this. We think he’ll like the shorter distance and hopefully run well here.

• Highwaytwentyseven ended up with a win, 2 seconds and a 4^th in 5 starts for us and was both fun and profitable for our very successful active racing group #58. Congratulations to trainer Kelly Breen and his crew and the entire Kenwood team for a job well done with this horse, who was claimed from us on the final day of the Monmouth 2020 meet as expected.

• Pango was going to be entered at Laurel Park tomorrow. An ideal grass race, one of the last possible turf races of the year, but with heavy rain all week it will be off the turf so no reason to enter (even on the turf a heavy, wet grass course would not suit him). We are considering other options with him.

• Adhwaa was entered for Friday at Belmont Park and the race did not go. It would have been back on just under 2 weeks rest, so there’s no rush and we’ll enter in the next available spot. There’s a possible race at Parx to enter in shortly. We expect a big race from her whenever she runs as well as she’s been training.

• Tracy Ann's Legacy was entered at Laurel Park and for the 4^th time, they did not use the race. It was the 8^th time we’d entered her at multiple tracks looking to run her once more before she shipped to Palm Meadows but no luck. She’s on a van to Florida today and we’ll look for a race for her there next month instead.

• Fire's Finale training well at Belmont Park. As you can see from the 2 attached photos, he’s happy and comfortable and doing great. He will train there for his final start of 2020, the Pa. Nursery Stakes, an $80,000 race restricted to Pa. bred 2 year olds going 7 furlongs, which should be an ideal distance for him. After that we plan to send him down to Ocala for some richly deserved R&R. Timing should be perfect to have him ready for a big three year old season next year after a brief layoff.

• New Found Treasure will be sent to the sale in Maryland the first week of December, there’s also a good possibility she’ll be sold privately before the sale.

• Blu Candy is training forwardly and will breeze at Belmont Park in the next few days. The brief time off at the farm really did her a world of good, she’s bred to be better as she matures and it looks like she’s making genuine progress. She’s on track to make her debut well before the end of the year, perhaps even by the end of November.

• Life On the Edge  enjoying a well-deserved bit of R&R at Sunset Meadow farm. She had 2 wins and two seconds for us this year, earning nearly $50,000. A little turnout while the weather is still good and back in training before the end of the year.

• Seven Seven enjoying his R&R at Sunset Meadow farm also, all good. Here’s a bit of good news, his freshman sire, Laoban, is a sensation. Hopefully Seven Seven will add to his sire’s blossoming reputation next year!

• Lisa Limon and weanling by Liam’s Map both very well in Kentucky.

• Highwaytwentyseven was a hard fought 4^th today at Monmouth Park on closing day for the 2020 season. He got into a protracted early battle and tired late while trying every step of the way and was, as expected, claimed from us. While we’d have loved to go out with a win here we did really well with this horse all summer after claiming him early in the Monmouth meet. Overall he had a win, 2 seconds and a 4^th in 5 starts for us and was both fun and profitable for our very successful active racing group #58. Congratulations to trainer Kelly Breen and his crew and the entire Kenwood Racing team for a job well done with our final runner at what has been an exceptional meet for us at Monmouth Park.

More good entry news, an action filled week ahead…

• Rapstorerocks was entered for next Friday at Penn National and the race went. A large field but training strongly for this. We think he’ll like the shorter distance and hopefully run well here
• Tracy Ann's Legacy has now been entered seven times for turf races at Monmouth Park and Laurel Park, none of which went. The race at Laurel has been brought back for the 3^rd time as an extra, enter tomorrow for next week. If we can get her in that would be perfect as we could run her once more before she ships to Palm Meadows. If it doesn’t go tomorrow, we’ll probably have to ship out and look for a race in Florida next month instead. Fingers crossed!
• Itsgottabemyway runs at Parx Tuesday. There are 16 horses entered, only 10 can run so it’s fortunate she drew in this time, a little long overdue good luck for her. Won’t be easy but she’ll get a shot. There is a chance of rain and she’ll run on either turf or dirt, she’s ready. After the race she’ll ship to Penn National to train with Mark Salvaggio.
• Adhwaa shipped to Belmont Park with Blu Candy and is doing so well that we plan to enter her tomorrow for a race later this week at Belmont. It would be back on just under 2 weeks rest, so if the race doesn’t go there’s no rush and we’ll enter in the next available spot. We expect a big race from her whenever she runs as well as she’s been training.

• Giuliana Vee good out of her race at Penn National where she ran an excellent fast closing 2^nd and will be entered this week at Penn for one of two races the first week of November.
• Pango doing well out of his 2^nd impressive win in a row. There are 2 spots to enter him in at Laurel this week, hopefully he’ll get in one of them.

• New Found Treasure was 5^th this evening at Presque Isle on Polytrack, beating exactly half of the 9 horse field. Far back in last for much of the race, she made a nice wide rally, got in a bit tight when making her move at the top of the stretch, but kept trying to end up beaten about 4 & ½ lengths for the win. She’s an honest filly who did fine on her first try on Polytrack.

Lots of exciting entry news, the weather gets cooler in the fall and the races fewer but for Kenwood Racing the action remains hot…

• Tracy Ann's Legacy was entered (after many previous entries at Monmouth Park) for Sunday at Laurel Park and that too did not go. Fortunately the race was brought back as an extra, enter tomorrow for next Thursday. If we can get her in next week that would be perfect as we could run her once more before she ships to Palm Meadows in Florida. Fingers crossed!

A lot of the above horses are turf runners and as grass racing winds down in the entire region for the season opportunities become few and far between and almost every race becomes super-competitive and overfills. We’ve had exceptional success with turf horses this year (and in past years); Tracy Ann’s Legacy, Pango, New Found Treasure, Life On the Edge, etc. have won a ton of races and money for us on the grass, more than 50% of our wins and purses actually in 2020, but there’s no free lunch in the racing game and that’s the challenge with turf horses at this time of year. 

• Blu Candy is training forwardly. The brief time off at the farm really did her a world of good, she’s bred to be better as she matures and it looks like she’s making genuine progress. She’s on track to make her debut well before the end of the year, perhaps even by the end of November. Should work again shortly.

This is a nice filly and she’s run well for us all year long. There’s a couple of spots for her to run back in the first week of November.
