General News
- Don’t forget our “Purses & Claiming” seminar tomorrow! An absolute must for anyone interested in how the claiming process and the economics of racing works.
- Kenwood’s record has been nothing short of phenomenal this summer; a word we rarely use but with eight wins, six seconds and one third from eighteen starts in July and August including three wins and four seconds from seven starts at our home base of Monmouth Park, it certainly applies. Congratulations to all our owners on your many successes with; Life On the Edge two wins in a row! Highwaytwentyseven, a going away 5+ length win in his Kenwood debut and a game 2nd. Two wins in a row for Rapstorerocks at Penn, including a head bob thriller in a 3 horse photo in his last, No Good Deed, New Found Treasure, 2nd, 1st and 3rd in her last three starts, a win and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee and a very game 2nd in her Kenwood debut for Tracy Ann’s Legacy and more to come!
- The article from TDN speaks for itself, High Purses and Field-Limiting Claiming Conditions. What’s Not to Like? Plenty.
Horse by Horse News
- Seven Seven is in a favorable spot Friday at Saratoga. As explained previously, experience makes a huge difference with young horses. In his debut, the two horses with a race under their hooves ran 1-2, very typical. This time by good fortune he’s the only horse in the race with a previous start. Of course first time starters are all unknowns, one or more of them could well be standout horses, but the experience edge is in our corner now. He’s been training great since he ran, and we retain the same top rider for him (Luis Saez). With a decent trip (which he clearly didn’t get last time), we’d expect him to at least take a big step forward here.
Other entry news…. (as mentioned many times previously, race dates, #s, times, etc. may be found on Equibase.com and here).
- Giuliana Vee is on the Also Eligible list in an overflow field at Penn National but fortunately it appears as we had anticipated there will be at least one scratch and she WILL run. Unless you read otherwise assume she IS running at Penn this Friday. This is a perfect example of the process we detailed in our last seminar on ‘entries and the condition book’. There was a race to enter in yesterday at Delaware that went, but the race at Penn was a much more favorable spot without having to ship. We anticipated there would be a scratch and she’d get in at Penn so passed on the Delaware entry. It appears to have worked out here but sometimes it doesn’t. As the article on the claiming game from TDN at the end of this article details, this is frequently a challenging process.
- Pango is on the Also Eligible list in an overflow field for Friday at Penn National, will need one scratch by race day to get in so we entered him in a race for next Wednesday, but once again he’s on the Also Eligible list. Turf races can overfill and be tough to get into! If he gets into either race, we will let you know, otherwise assume he’s not running. If we don’t get in we’ll just have to look for alternate spots.
- Rapstorerocks training great, was entered today at Penn National looking for his 3rd win in a row and the race went with a nice 7 horse field. Right distance, right level, same winning rider. Of course it’s a tougher group than he’s ever faced (non-winners of three are a lot better horses than non-winners of two or maidens!) but he figures to run really well again here.
- Fire's Finale will be entered tomorrow for Sunday at Monmouth Park, doing great off an excellent closing 2nd last time and we sure hope the race goes.
- New Found Treasure will be entered Friday for the same spot at Penn National where she’s been 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last three starts.
- No Good Deed ok out of a rough trip last time when 4th at Penn National. There was a race to enter her in today but Mark Salvaggio decided to pass and give her a little more time before running her back again.
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy good out of her excellent, hard-trying 2nd and will be entered for an allowance event on the grass next week at Monmouth Park. This is a very nice filly and looks like an excellent claim for our active racing group #58, should be lots of good times ahead with her.
- Itsgottabemyway doing great. She was very impressive the day we claimed her at Monmouth Park; sat off the pace early, made a sustained four wide move on the far turn, and won going away. Look for her to make her Kenwood debut next month.
- Highwaytwentyseven doing very well out of an excellent second at Monmouth Park, running back on just seven days rest. This nice 3yo has a win and a second now in two starts for us since being claimed, both at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Will get a light training schedule after running twice in seven days and look for a race for him next month.
- Life on the Edge sound and well off her second win in a row at Monmouth Park. Look for her in a similar spot in September.
- Adhwaa training well at Monmouth Park, no issues. Will breeze soon.
- Blu Candy well at the farm. Expect her to return to training at Monmouth Park in September.
- Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse. Our Liam’s Map – Lisa Limon foal should be a very popular commodity when we sell him as a yearling next year.
