So much news, hard to know where to begin!

We’ll start with an outstanding weekend of racing at Santa Anita with exceptional performances at the Breeders’ Cup. A large group of Kenwood owners & friends attended the National Thoroughbred Owner’s Conference this week, followed by a thrilling Breeders’ Cup in a setting that is truly sublime. If you’ve never been to Santa Anita, you’ve missed out on something very special indeed. Of course everyone was deeply saddened at the loss of Mongolian Groom and our hearts go out to all his connections but nonetheless it was a weekend of racing to remember on many fronts.

Turning to Kenwood runners, we had two races at two tracks and come away with one thrilling win and one hard fought loss. The two races went off, literally, at the same time on two coasts, with Life On the Edge battling hard for the lead in a one mile dirt event at Laurel Park, taking the lead briefly at the top of the stretch before tiring badly to finish a well beaten 7th.  It was a tough allowance race and probably the dirt was not her best surface. Seems to have come out of the race fine, she tried hard and actually ran well.

As Life On the Edge was tiring at Laurel Park, at Golden Gate Fields, Night of Idiots was rallying from dead last after a slow start to run down the entire field from the far outside in the stretch to just get up over the favorite in the final stride, winning by a head in a thrilling photo finish. We felt going in off a good 3rd in her comeback after a layoff last time out she was the horse to beat in this spot and she lived up to her billing with a vary game and hard fought victory today. Kenwood partner Helen Hansel was on hand to celebrate in the winner’s circle with trainer Jonathan Wong, who has done a wonderful, patient training job for us and our partner MyRacehorse.com with this filly. Congratulations to Jonathan and his team and all the co-owners of this horse.

Also some good news on the entry front to report, with two entries for this coming week.

  • Rapstorerocks finally gets in the entries at Aqueduct Thursday, after the race was carried over 5 times. He’s in an overflow 16 horse field (12 will run), obviously not an easy spot in New York, but he’s been training really well recently and deserves a shot here.
  • ShimmyShimmy Shake also finally gets in the entries and also runs this Thursday, at Penn National. She’s been training strongly since arriving at Penn National and we are expecting a huge improvement here off her disappointing Monmouth Park races.

Anyone needing assistance with seating – admissions, etc. please contract George@kenwoodracing.com

  • Solar is doing excellent, there’s a race for him enter this week at Aqueduct or an alternate at Laurel Park the same day
  • New Found Treasure fine at Penn National and will be entered this week for her first race there.
  • Giuliana Vee  good and ready to run back as soon as we can find a spot for her.
  • No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park, had been a little stiff last few days but we did some treatments and she trained excellent today.

No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park on November 1, 2019.

  • More Ice worked really well again today at Los Alamitos and should be ready to run at Del Mar later this month.
  • Shake It Up Baby will ship to Gulfstream Park to continue his training there with Kelly Breen this week from T-Square Stud in Ocala.
  • Magic Musketier doing fine and will look for grass next time.
  • Bullion is doing well in Kentucky, training at Ellis Park. Trainer Steve Asmussen (leading trainer in North America this year and the trainer of both of Liam’s Map’s stakes winners, Basin and Wicked Whisper, interestingly) reports he’s been working on building up muscle he lost while on the farm. Says the horse is training well and very sound, no leg or other issues. His plan is to get a race or two into him in Louisiana later this fall and hopefully have him sharp and ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins in January. Oaklawn has some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels and Steve feels he’ll be a really good fit there and have a shot to earn some serious purse money at that meet.
  • Last but certainly not least, impossible to keep up with all the good news with Lisa Limon, she sells a week from Sunday at Keeneland, the sale will be live streamed on the Keeneland website.
