Story Spinner became the 7th horse from Kenwood Racing's 2016 two year old crop to make his debut with a strong closing 3rd in race 1 at Penn National on January 6th, 2017. Off very slowly, he dropped back to last in the early going, but began picking off horses on the far turn and closed stoutly in the stretch in the 5.5 furlong maiden sprint. Then on January 29th he journeyed from Penn to run at Laurel and ran a hard-trying 2nd, far behind the winner and well ahead of the rest of a scratch shortened 7 horse field. He was claimed from us out of the race, and while we’d have been happy to keep him and break his maiden ourselves which he certainly should be good enough to do if he stays sound, he’s shown in his first two races that he’s likely worth about what he was claimed for today so he was properly placed.
