New Found Treasure is enjoying a safe and happy retirement thanks in large part to the efforts of one of her Kenwood Racing Co-Owners, Wendy Slocombe who shared the following with us....

Update on New Found Treasure 12-5-20

When my husband and I thought about joining Kenwood Racing, I wanted to know what the groups’ opinion was regarding their horses. So, I asked the jovial Kenwood group that was laughing and carrying on in their box next to ours about this. To a person, it was evident to me that they cared and respected their horses and when possible, they liked to transition their thoroughbreds into a second career.

Kenwood Racing’s website states, that it is “A passionate advocate for owners, racing fans, and racehorse welfare”.

New Found Treasure, was purchased by Genevieve Naffin of Foxbreeze Farm, Colts Neck, NJ on November 18, 2020. She immediately settled in, sharing a pasture with others, free jumping in the indoor ring, and obediently standing on crossties. Her barn name is “Newfie” and she is affectionate, willing, and trusting. She loves her new owner and Genevieve loves her. She is currently enjoying her OTTB (Off Track ThoroughBred) makeover in the beauty salon, getting her teeth and hair done and new shoes.

Thoroughbreds that race are handled multiple times a day. This increases their domesticity and since they are an athletic animal to begin with, they can do very well in different sports. She will be pointed towards the Olympic sport of Eventing, a triathlon, which “. . .tests horse and rider pairs more completely than any other discipline. Her professional progress will be listed under her registered name of New Found Treasure, her Event trainer can be found by googling Abby Maude & Stonehaven’s Dream and Newfie’s farm website can be found at foxbreezefarm.com.

Her first under tack ride as a non-racehorse happened on 12/05/2020 in the indoor ring on a cold windy day. Abby Maude stated, “She was amazing, couldn’t ask for a better start!”

Thanks again to Kenwood Racing LLC and Mark Salvaggio for concluding her racing career and sending this nice sound mare on her way to a second career for continued excitement and fun.
