Kenwood is deeply saddened to report the death of our handsome three-year-old colt Shake It Up Baby yesterday after a battle with Clostridial-Enterocolitis, a severe and frequently fatal digestive illness. A promising runner who had just made his three year old debut at Gulfstream Park, finishing 4th on January 15th, he developed severe diarrhea that could not be controlled at his home at Palm Meadows training center and was sent to Dr. Jose Bras for treatment at his clinic nearby. An aggressive course of treatment including multiple antibiotics seemed to be working well, but he took a turn for the worse two days ago. Despite the best efforts of Dr. Bras and his team, the decision was made to humanly euthanize him when it became apparent he could not be saved and was beginning to suffer.

This is the hardest part of the business for everyone, something none of us ever gets used to. It is especially sad with a horse so young and healthy, with a great life ahead of him. Unfortunately it’s the nature of these beautiful, but fragile animals that many succumb to illnesses, especially intestinal ones. With the loving care he received the suffering was greatly reduced, but that does little to ease the sadness we all are feeling right now.
