Kenwood Racing Taste of Thoroughbred Ownership Package #10

What a great two years it’s been! We’re celebrating our 10th co-owner group (thank you!!!) with a unique and exciting package. We’ve never had a group with more than four horses, but a week of 10+ hour days paid off with the purchase of six two year olds of exceptional promise at the OBS April sale. If you want to own a ‘stable’ of young horses with limitless potential in one group, here it is!

Group #10 has three colts and three fillies and includes; a Florida bred eligible for the rich Florida stallion stakes series this summer, a New Jersey bred eligible for lucrative state bred races at Monmouth by a Kentucky sire with a Kentucky pedigree, a filly with one of the fastest two furlong works at the sale (21.1!), and one of the finest physical individuals I have ever seen (let alone purchased) in 30+ years in the business.  A 5% Co-Ownership in this package costs $9,900 total with no additional payments of any kind, a great value for six horses of this quality. Obviously, there are never any guarantees in this business. Potential does not always equal racetrack success! That is why we offer a package instead of selling interests in individual runners. With our own money invested in every horse we offer to potential co-owners, we are very selective about what we purchase! Here’s a brief description of the horses in Kenwood Racing group #10. Three of the six horses are yet to be named, the names listed are their sire and dam, we’ll be naming them shortly.

HIP #1018 Successful Appeal – She’s Roughin It
 is a two year old colt purchased for $40,000 at OBS on April 26th. This is a truly stunning physical individual who worked in 10.1 at the sale and did it easily.  In 30 years of buying horses, this is one of the most impressive physical individuals we have ever been fortunate enough to purchase, enough said! This horse will be trained by Steve DiMauro at Monmouth Park. He’s bred to be quick and run early, so if all goes well he’ll be running at Monmouth this summer (remember, all plans as to races, tracks, etc. are always subject to change!).

HIP #1008, Macho Uno – Shanghai Rose
is a New Jersey bred colt by the top Kentucky sire Macho Uno purchased for $30,000 at OBS on April 26th. There are few if any New Jersey bred two year olds with this kind of pedigree, and he looks the part. As a state bred, he’ll race against restricted company (races for state breds only) for lucrative purses all year long (and in future years) at Monmouth. He too will be stabled at Monmouth with trainer Steve Dimauro and we are pointing towards New Jersey bred stakes with him this summer.

HIP #667, Mutakddim – Loh Collado is a lovely filly purchased for $37,000 at OBS on April 25th. Mutakddim is the sire of over 100 stakes winners, and she comes from a very strong female family, so the pedigree is there for her to be literally any kind of horse.  She will join the others at Monmouth with Steve DiMauro and be pointed for races in New Jersey this summer.

HIP #456, Good to Gold (Pomeroy – Free Skate) is a two year old filly by the promising young sire Pomeroy purchased for $30,000 at OBS on April 24th. She worked in 21.1 at the sale, one of the fastest workouts out of nearly 1200 horses offered. Her pedigree and fast workout time indicates she’ll run early. This filly will be trained by Mark Salvaggio at Penn National Racecourse. Mark has done a fantastic job for us with the horses we’ve sent him over the last few years, and this one is a standout! We’re eager to see her make her debut!

HIP #339, Piano Man Ted (Pomeroy – Darian Skye) is a two year old colt by the same sire as Good to Gold (above) purchased for $30,000 at OBS on April 24th. He’s a half brother to Mr. Green, a horse who placed in six stakes in Florida as a two and three year old who has already earned over $150,000. He’s eligible for the Florida stallion stakes, the same series of rich races his brother was so successful in, and that’s what he’ll be pointed for. He’ll stay in Florida at Calder Racecourse with Steve DiMauro’s Florida division. Having a horse who is eligible and has the pedigree to run in a series of four races as two year old for purses of $75,000 - $350,000 is a great opportunity. This horse could make us very happy if he follows along the same path his brother did.

HIP #10, Amelia Mar (Corinthian – Vecchia Cita) is a two year old filly by the very promising young Kentucky sire Corinthian purchased for just $22,000 at OBS on April 23rd. We got lucky here; this filly was one of the first horses in the ring (Hip #10 out of 1196 Hip numbers) and the sale hadn’t really got going full blast yet, so she sold for a well below market price. She is a beautiful moving horse with the pedigree to run all day long and we were really fortunate to be able to buy her.  She will join Steve DiMauro at Monmouth Park for racing there this summer.

Pricing;

A 5% (4.99%) interest in HIP #1018 ($2,100), HIP #1008 ($1,600), HIP #667 ($1,900), HIP #456 - Good to Gold ($1,600), HIP #339 – Piano Man Ted ($1,600) and HIP #10 – Amelia Mar ($1,100) costs $9,900.00 . This is a one time payment, there are no additional funds to be paid by the purchaser at any time for any reason. The horses are sold as a package, they are not available for purchase individually

A brief note on expenses. With any purchase there are additional expenses besides the sale price of the horses, i.e. state sales tax (one horse in this group), travel expenses, pedigree research, vet exams/x-rays of the horses we purchase, etc. Our costs are incredibly low compared to anyone else we know of who does this. All expenses and the purchase price of the horses are included in the above pricing numbers, rounded up to the nearest $50 for convenience. Unlike virtually everyone else in this business, we do not mark up horses. The price our Co-Owners pay is the price we pay. We have receipts for all sales expenses available in our office for inspection.

Basic Terms;

Once all of the above horses have been sold/retired, Kenwood will provide each purchaser with an accounting of all income and expenses, along with payment for the value of their interest according to the terms of our management agreement. All purchasers will sign a Thoroughbred Racehorse Management Agreement, including a Bill of Sale and a letter of interest page. This page is just an overview, those are the legal documents that spell out specific terms and conditions, which must be reviewed with your attorney, accountant and other advisors. This is not an offer to sell any interest or any horse! Thoroughbred racing is not for everyone, and we only work with a limited number of Co-Owners. If you think this package might be of interest to you, please contact us to take the next step.

It is important to remember that racehorses, while offering great potential, also involve considerable risk. There are literally thousands of horses with excellent pedigrees and conformation, some purchased for hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars, which never race, never win, and/or do not earn back their purchase prices due to a variety of reasons. This is especially the case with young, unraced horses.  Any horse’s performance and value can change dramatically with a single winning race or bad step. If you are looking for predictability and security, the racing game is not for you!
